We’re #1

Coaches’ Poll
AP Poll link forthcoming, but supposedly we’re #1 there, too. Next week’s home game against Missouri will be the first time the Texas Longhorns play a game as the #1 team in either major poll since the 1984 game against OU.

Some thoughts from the game

I lucked into some tickets at face late on Friday. So I told the old lady to start packing because we were going to Texas/OU for the 4th time. No hesitation whatsoever from her. Of course, I knew there wouldn’t be. Why?
My wife cares about only one football game all year. […]

Texas-OU: It Is Kind of a Big Deal Pt. 2

Taylor TRoom makes an impressive argument for the value of the Texas-OU contest being played in Dallas. He bases it on the neutral site and the national championship implications of the rivalry.
Today I would like to make the case for keeping the game the way it is, and where it is, from another angle. This […]

10/5 Ratings and Next Week’s Lines

Last year I began to track my ratings’ performance against the point spread for all games. (I use the ratings set that includes all teams instead of the Division I-A only ratings because more data is always better when evaluating true team strength.) This is where I should be launching into an infomercial about […]

Revising my Top 10 Coaches list

Yes, Nick Saban’s had his team for less than a year and a half and he just dominated Richt’s more talented unit.

Hawg, Interrupted

Our next football will be played against Chase Clement rather than Inclement.
The game has been officially shitcanned until September 27th.

Pig fans were ready

College Gameday in Austin?

ESPN announced yesterday that Chris, Kirk, Lee, and Desmond (how does he still draw a paycheck?) are going to be in Gainesville for the Miami-Florida match-up. That should tell you how shitty this week’s games are since this is not 2001 and Florida is favored by 3 touchdowns.
That will be Florida’s 28th appearance on […]

Austin Is Now a Top 50 TV Market: And That Matters To The Big 12

Austin is officially a top 50 Nielsen TV Market (#49). The Market rankings were released last week for the 2008-09 season. It used to be a significant number for local stations, in that the Top 50 was a breaking point for large institutional buyers. Today, not so much, although it can’t hurt. But it matters to […]

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

You don’t tug on Superman’s cape;
You don’t spit into the wind;
You don’t pull the mask on that old Lone Ranger,
And you don’t mess around with Jim.
As old as he is, one would have thought Florida Atlantic Coach Howard Schnellenberger might have at some point during the 1970s heard and listened to the lyrics of that great old […]

HenryJames Caught in Trannie Sting

Speaking of Internet hoaxes, HenryJames got busted in a trannie prostitute sting according to the Daily Post.
AUSTIN Last night, as most of us slept, local police conducted a massive sting operation targeted at the city’s prostitutes. Several officers from the Austin Police Department watched and waited as prostitutes walked up and down the streets of […]
