Our Linebackers

. . . have never taken on a block correctly. They have no concept of gap control. They overrun some plays and under run others. They can’t tackle. They are too slow laterally to be effective in coverage. Not a single one of them can be considered “fast.” One of them next to Derrick Johnson is OK, even two of them and DJ is acceptable. But all three of them together combine of one big black hole of suck that submarines everything we try to do on defense. I have no idea what Mack or Akina is waiting for, but we need to get Killebrew and Bobino off the field before something tragic happens.

First off, you don’t take on a block by lowering your shoulder and bowling aimlessly into your blocker, Scott Derry. That is exactly what they want you to do. You need to strike them with your hands to maintain some separation. Second, if your assigned gap is to your right, for the love of Vince, keep your right arm free. Attack the OL with your left shoulder and arm.

And Bobino, I know you love to attack at the first sign of a run, but when you just charge into the backfield as the RB blows right past you, maybe it’s time to, oh, I don’t know, slow down and bend your knees. I can’t count the number of times everyone was in position and Bobino just let a RB run right past him like he was an overeager gunner on the punt team.

Disgraceful. Yeah, Colt sucked again after the first quarter. Yeah, our run game is stupid. Yeah, we miss Sweed and Pittman. But we are twice as good a football team when our backup LBs are in the game (and sober).

Damn, I thought you are describing my huskers. It will be a fun game when we play you guys.

Bobino does an excellent job of telegraphing the blitz by always jumping early once or twice when he is coming. So he does do something well.

Norton came into the game in the third quarter, made three nice plays and was benched for the rest of the game.

    Mack Brown fucking hates me.

I will have to watch the game again, but I do think that Norton played 3 snaps in the second half. He had 3 tackles and forced UCF’s only three and out in the second half. He never played again to my knowledge. I guess he shouldn’t have shown the coaches and players up. This is getting absofuckinglutely insane. I mean, seriously, what the fuck is going on? I am going to need to seek psychiatric help over this. Maybe Tyrell can hook me up with some Xanax.

Norton & Muck on the bench is a mystery to me. WTF! Then, late in the year after a few losses, we’ll see them in there. What a fucking surprise! I thought after their performance in the TCU game, we’d see a nice rotation. Hell, how ’bout Kelson be the nickel linebacker. He can do that well as a linebacker! I’M SERIOUS! ALLCAPS!!! AS A POINT OF EMPHASIS.

13evO, i appreciate all your points and especially your use of CAPS when appropriate and even more so when you actually spell out ALLCAPS as a point of emphasis. in the future however i would like to see all posters on here use the kchorn method of posting instead.

    por ejemplo:

Norton & Muck on the bench is a (mystery) to “me” (i.e., “the answer is {unknown} to me”). WTF! (capitalized for emphasis) (i.e., “WTF - what the fuck”).

that would make everyones posts on here much more enjoyable to read and easier to understand.

    A-fuckin-man.

Out of all the things that are driving me insane about this team (and they are numerous), the LBer situation is number 1 BECAUSE it looks to be very fixable.

Muck and Norton seem to make plays every time they’re in the game and everytime I watch Derry and Killibrew, they’re either overrunning a play or getting pancaked.

Does anyone have an opponent’s drive success record vs our “experienced” lbers vs. our “inexperienced” ones?
