The State of Aggie Relevance
The State is not strong.
Terrance - I heard that the state of Texas A&M sports is so bad that the Houston Chronicle is PULLING OUT of actively covering Texas A&M Sports! This would be similar to what the Dallas Morning News did earlier this year! Is this true?
Aggiecoach,
You have heard correct. As of next week, the Chronicle will no longer have a reporter assigned to cover A&M athletics. We will be taking stories from the San Antonio Express-News. Joseph Duarte, however, will continue to cover the UT Longhorns and the Big 12. Additionally, this blog will also discontinue after this week. While similar to the Dallas Morning News, it’s also a very different move. The Morning News no longer covers any of the Big 12 schools as a beat but they have about three or four reporters who rotate around the schools. Well, take care and it’s been fun.

Tree. Forest.
“Well, take care and it’s been fun.”
That’s awesome. The standard end for a dysfunctional relationship.

“It’s not you. It’s me.”
No–that’s backwards. “It is you, after all.”

Yes, but they are still considering Spurrier as their next coach.

In related news ChrisApplewhite has been named BarkingCarnival’s Texas A&M correspondent.
Congratulations, Chris!

Make it steven.

I’m not going to approve any expense vouchers from Denim n’ Diamonds this time so you better tell him that.

Just another one of them ominous signs that the backward, red-neck, hick, “I’m a gonna camp out on the border with my shotgun handy” whitey man is losing his pull in this country and even in this great hick state of ours.
Outside of those apocalyptic and “we better start learning Spanish” signs, A&M probably won’t be in the cellar forever. Probably “I am as fat as a Sherman tank” Sherman is not, let us say, practical or bottom line enough to get the job done. Being from the pros, he may possibly be still under the impression that the secret to success in CFB has anything to do with football itself and that foolishness will probably keep him from fielding a team that is anything more than mediocre.
All A&M has to do is to just start cheating and much more broadly and efficiently than they have been doing up till now as of late. And, in my opinion, Sherman “tank” just does not seem to be the man for that kind of job. He seems like a sort of a semi-sincere and semi-genuine man. But, unfortunately, there is just no place for such man in today’s world of CFB, at least not if you want to WIN. I mean, who ever heard of such a thing — a decent human being winning in something as seedy as CFB? For a succesful coach to actually be a decent human being and win would be like a politician being outright publicly un-American and expecting to win. Just not gonna happen.
Aggie football will get off the ground when they get a coach and system in place that knows how to cheat in an efficient and a more professional manner. Right now, they are probably the most inefficient and incompetent cheaters around. They cheat like a bunch of redneck, backward, whitey hicks, which might be expected, I suppose, since that’s just what they happen to be. But they need to get caught with the times. There is no reason to believe that an Ag can cheat as professionally and as competitively as the rest of the CFB world.

Oh, and by the way, I would love to be a correspondent for the Ags. Texags is the best of its kind. It’s sort of like the NY city of internet CFB forums. In truth, the only reason why I am stuck on here (no disrespect intended) is cause I don’t have a private e-mail address and I can’t get on over there. If I could ever get on Texags, I would be a happy, happy poster, and I would be posting over there like a phantom of the opera. Texags, now that is place for a man like me.

Thanks, all, for keeping this whole “free private email-account” thing our little secret.

One can only wonder if even steven is still reading by the time he gets to the third or fourth paragraph of his missives.

Hearst owns both the Chron and SAEN. This move has nothing to do with A&M Football’s lack of success. It has everything to do with Brent Z being the better beat writer and actually living in CS so he can cover A&M for both Hearst properties.
Non-issue. Now, go play Missouri.

On the serious side here, A&M won’t be a serious contender for anything other than mediocre for the next four to five years, if for no other reason than the fact that they just do not have the QB to run a consistent O.
I recently had a chance to watch J.J. play and while he is somewhat impressive, his game at QB is too questionable for him to be the one to turn around the Aggie’s fortunes, and it does not seem like it is something that can be corrected because his issues are due to his build more than anything else.
He plays alot like a WR with a decent arm attempting to play the QB position, and due to his length, he suffers from what I like to call the “Randall Cunningham Syndrome”. His arms and delivery are so long that he will probably never be a consistent thrower in the short to intermediate game (this could be why midget QB’s are so successful in the B12). Unlike Colt and Bradford, he does not have that short armed, Aikman-like release which excels at making such bread and butter throws. But, other the hand, such a release as J.J.’s typically allows one to throw a pretty and catchable ball down field. Probably the reason why Aikman tended to throw ducks down the field and why he always stuggled with the deep throw. So unless the Ags get themselves some studs at WR and turn themselves into a big play O or have a dominant run game to buttress an inconsistent passing game, I just do not see the Aggie offense turning into anything formidable with J.J. leading that team.
