Gay vs. Bolt

I’ve always been a closet fan of the Summer Olympics, and I don’t want to even admit on a public forum some of the events I watch.  However, I will admit that the Usain Bolt versus Tyson Gay matchup in the 100 meters is an event I won’t be missing.  I think Bolt is the overwhelming favorite here, especially with Gay’s injury.  Even healthy, Gay would have a hard time taking Bolt.  Carl Lewis is the closest comparison I can think of to the 6′5″ Bolt.  He’s a graceful gazelle imported straight from the grassy plains of Jamaica.  Gay’s weakness, other than pastel colors and Prada knit vests, is starting out of the blocks.  This is where Bolt smoked him in New York City (on a wet track) to set the world record.  Both are strong finishers and Gay made a strong statement by running an unofficial 9.68 after the NYC showdown.

However, I think we’re just beginning to see the tip of the iceberg from Bolt.  He’s only 21 years old and this is his first season running the 100 at this level.  Hopefully, he will someday reach the pinnacle of his ability as Carl Lewis demonstrates in this video everything that is possible through hard work and determination:

I read the headline and thought this was about Scipio’s first experience in a San Francisco bathhouse.

No, but I’m sure Scipio’s encounter did indeed involve the sweet sounds of Carl Lewis.

I could just see the confused look on Scipio’s face as Carl slowly seduces him into the suana, noddingly suggesting that Scipio not forget to put the “Do Not Disturb” tag on the door…

    That video was very disturbing

I’m not sure what was more disturbing, the body suit Carl is sporting or bagging the grandmother in the suana.

I like his “Word Up” video much better.

I didn’t know Chooky did a music video. It’s still disturbing.

I think my favorite part is the random slow-mo of Carl doing the long jump.

Oh my. I just wasted 3 minutes and 8 seconds of my evening watching that horrible video.

    Thanks.

I truly enjoyed Lewis’s rendition of the national anthem.

Well, that sucks. Gay didn’t make the finals. Bolt jogged a 9.92 in the quarters.

Did anybody see that final? That dude has a rocket embedded in his ass.

Did Bolt really just let up the last 15m and STILL set a new world record? Good Lord.

That was the most amazing sprint I’ve ever seen.

He could’ve cartwheeled the last 10 meters and still won. Jesus.

Nevertheless, I will punch in the throat the first guy who posts “You could just tell him to run a fly pattern, and no one could stop him in the NFL!”

I don’t think we’ll ever really know exactly how fast he is.

The Google ads on the bottom right of this page are very appropriate for Carl.
