Baseball team peaking at right time.
Don’t look now, but the Texas baseball team has started playing great. They swept Texas A&M this weekend, and they’ve now won 10 of their last 13 games.
In the series against A&M, they finally put it all together. Great pitching, solid defense and timely hitting. Texas only gave up 7 earned runs in the series and didn’t commit a single error.
Now there’s even talk about Texas hosting a regional despite not getting a number one seed. The athletic department has bid $250,000 for the right to host a regional for the seventh straight year.
Before the season I thought this team would win the College World Series. A month ago I didn’t think this team would even make the Big 12 tournament. Now I’m in the middle because although they are playing great, they still don’t have much pitching depth.
They begin tournament play tomorrow against Missouri at 9am.

agree 100%. I thought this would be a really good team, then after the mizzou debacle, I didn’t think they’d even get a regional invite, much less host one. then Kasparek, the most inconsistent of the pitchers, starts stringing some good pitching together, the defense improves, and we sweep aggy. who knows……

We’re as puzzled as you are. The only thing Texas didn’t do well this weekend was bunt. It will be interesting to see who starts tomorrow. I can’t imagine Ruffin is ready to go. Isn’t the game at 9AM? Wake me if we aren’t losing at 11.

The compressed season took it’s toll on ERAs nation wide, it wasn’t just us. It doesn’t help that we have a bunch of freshmen on the staff with a freshman catcher. We don’t have those two dominators that can drag us through the supers, we have a shaky bullpen, and we haven’t been able to hit a changeup since Majewski left, but we have a lot better shot now than we did midseason.
It’ll be interesting to see how well we do in the Big 12 tournament. We actually need to do well, for once.

I think either Workman or Boening will get the start.

It’s hard to get out of the mindset that we need to win that first game to advance. Since we will play three games before the championship, it makes sense to start Workman on Wednesday, and then go back to the regular rotation starting with Ruffin on Thursday.

The problem is that Missouri will absolutely slaughter poor pitching. We need to get a quality start out of someone or they will deplete our pen.

Ruffin got the start. Texas up 1-0 batting in the top of the 4th.

Going to extra innings tied 2-2.

This is why we can’t get out of the regionals with this team. Can’t hit good pitching. Any pitcher than can bend it will own us.
We actually got a great performance out of Ruffin and lost because he made one mistake. Also, I don’t think we’ve gotten Pfriday out in two years.

We held Mizzou to two runs in nine innings, were hitting against their fourth starter, and lost. Not a good loss.
