Well, he won't have the ponies at A&M that he had at Bama. You say he is known for letting great players have some freedom to play in space. My question is: how is he at developing decent players.

We have guys with potential, but there are problems with their level of development, as well as their position assignments (I'm almost positive Jordan Peterson is the only 4'9 CB in college football).

It depends on if your press box savant dislikes a mixture of 4-3 and 3-3-5. He does tend to take a "bend, don't break" mentality and he likes to run simple, but effective, plays. But, his players at Alabama had the ability to swarm to the ball really well. He preaches good tackling, as he works on it at the start of every practice.

What prepared few of his 'Bama players (DeMeco Ryans, Roman Harper, etc.) for the NFL so well was the fact that he let them have a bit of free roam at times.
I tend to think this was more of a fire by baptism since the 2003 season was so strange after Price was fired for stripper lovin'. Kines really had no choice but to let these guys learn the hard way sometimes. But, his defenses had back-to-back seasons of allowing less than 200 points.

Also, the students should like him. Coach Kines was born on a train, so he's got a history of toughness the players should like. He also has the tendency to call everyone coach when he talks to them.

I wonder if it was his defensive coaching or the fact that DeMeco Ryans was a certified NFL pro bowl caliber playing the MLB position and making most of the defensive calls.

That was a damn salty defense that held them to 10 points. I think they also held Florida to about that much in the game where Prothro's leg exploded.

If you think that's funny, look up some of his interview quotes. This guy will give you material for days. Something about comparing the spread offense to a hog-tie?

I'm being optimistic about hiring Father Time, though. Today's mantra is: "He held Tech to 10 points. He held Tech to 10 points..."
