Duane Akina watches film. Decides ‘Casablanca’ better than ‘Gigli’

From today’s Fort Worth Star-Telegram:

After elevating safety Ishie Oduegwu to the starting lineup against Nebraska, co-defensive coordinator Duane Akina hinted Monday that a similar promotion could be in store for linebacker Sergio Kindle.

Kindle, a sophomore, had a team-high eight tackles against Nebraska. In five games as the backup to Robert Killebrew, Kindle has three tackles for losses (TFL), three quarterback pressures and a pass breakup (PBU). In nine starts, Killebrew has no TFLs, no sacks, no interceptions, no forced fumbles, no fumble recoveries and no PBUs.

Akina called Kindle “an impact player” who has “shown up on the highlight reels” in recent weeks. Asked about the possibility of another lineup change against OSU, Akina said: “We’ll probably make those decisions as the week unfolds.”

‘You’re pretty much my favorite linebacker.’

The depth chart was posted today. Killebrew is still the starter.

I knew it was too good to be true.

I thought depth chart decisions were made by position coaches and not the coordinator.
