Les Miles has a mentor

LSU coach Les Miles’ decision to throw a pass with 8 seconds left against Auburn was roundly criticized by pretty much everyone. Fortunately for Miles it worked. Had the pass been incomplete and time expired, whiskey bottles would have rained down on him.

But it turns out that not everyone thought Miles’ decision was crazy. Turns out Miles has a mentor who agreed with the call.

‘So you’re saying don’t go for the field goal?’

Miles didn’t name the mentor, but he did say that he once coached cornerbacks. The mentor studied the reactions of the Auburn corner on the play and said he was ready for a possession pass.

“That corner was ready for a possession pass,” Miles quoted his mentor as saying. “He was ready for you to try to get just a few more yards to put yourself in position to kick.”

No shit.

On another note, if you ever want to watch and hour of pure comedy, set aside the time in your week to watch the Houston Nutt Show. The desparation in his voice says it all. Included are jewels such as:

    1. Man, XYZ player is improving every week. He’s been in our program for 4 years and just keeps getting better.

    2. Positive spins on all negative rushing plays and turnovers.

    3. Subtle references to the “upswing” of the program after positive players.

    And my personal favorite,

    4. The player profile of the week which consists of no weaknesses of any player, the academic prowess of said player with bonus footage of player in class and working on sociology major, and of course the obligatory comparison of player to former Arkansas greats from the SWC days. Like this week, I learned that Peyton Hillis has the best hands in the program since James Shibest, while being the most complete player since Barry Foster.

    It’s pure gold.

Probably getting corn-holed on the dirt floor of a seedy Guatemalan jail cell.

Either that, or he’s tied up like the Gimp in the closet of an L.A. lawyer/football genius.
