Liveblogging Texas against Baylor

I’m doing what?

This will be a slaughter, but hopefully it will give us a chance to see some of the secondary packages duane Akina will use against Texas Tech.

Fittingly sponsored by Hampton Inn and Keystone Light, the cornerstone of any weekend in Waco.

We have Chris Ogbonnaya returning kicks. Seriously.

Conscious effort to get the ball to Finley. Thrown at him 3 times, 1 completed.

Inevitable fake field goal coming up.

And there it is. Ruled uncatchable. Four passes to Finley now.

Texas is in cover 2. Baylor qb just threw up a punt and completed it.

Baylor QB’s timing is off. Behind on the slants.

And Baylor misses their field goal.

Nice block by Lokey out of the I.

Baylor DT read the screen.

McCoy isn’t sharp. We’ll blame it on the wind.

This camera work would make Sam Fuller envious.

Blitzing Bobino gets us nothing. Nothing.

Chiles is in. With the second team offensive line. Would it kill us to get him some snaps with the first team?

The over/under on the number of times Mack Brown will mention the wind is 6.

Vondrell McGee needs to get the ball with his shoulders square. He’s a north-south runner.

See. Eighteen yard run.

Chiles one hops his first pass attempt. At some point he’s going to need to get more attempts. If not against Baylor, then who?

Field goal good from 46 yards. 3-0 Texas.

Backup linebackers are in. Norton and Kindle.

This game is Southwest Conference painful to watch.

Nice to be able to see the secondary coverages. Would be even nicer to be able to see the players’ jersey numbers.

Get a false start penalty coming out of a timeout.

We hit Finley while he’s moving. Are we allowed to do that?

Broken play. Interception. Shit! Now what do we do?!

Baylor runs a screen on our blitz. Did you notice Kindle turn and catch the runner from behind? And the runner stays down.

Interception by Norton. Bench him.

Iowa State is beating OU 7-0.

Texas going for it on 4th and goal.

Wow. We are a comedy of errors.

Who didn’t see that coming? Duane Akina, that’s who.

Colt is not sharp. And when he isn’t, we’re fucked on offense.

Iowa State just picked off Sam Bradford.

Busted play, good run by Colt.

Should be a touchdown by Nate Jones. It is.

Ben Alexander is going to be a player for us.

Baylor player went the wrong way, or that slip screen would have gone for a big gain. When we blitz, we only hurt ourselves.

Bobino is hurt. Coaches will continue to play him by putting his hospital bed directly behind Okam and Lokey.

We drop Lokey into coverage. Somehow the tight end finds an opening in his zone.

Another blitz, another completion for Baylor.

We only bring four, and Houston gets the sack.

What have the last two plays taught us?

We rush four again and get a coverage sack.

Eureka!

Guess Jared Norton figured out his coverage drops.

Baylor receives to start the second half.

Hubble Space Telescope resumes camera work.

Norton and Lokey read the screen on 3rd down, and Baylor punts. The play before we ran a zone blitz with Orakpo dropping, and that makes a hell of a lot more sense than Lokey dropping.

McCoy throws it into quadruple coverage, and Baylor picks it. Never saw the MLB drop. Just like the James Laurinitis interception in the Ohio State game last year.

Bullshit personal foul on Kindle. We had Lokey covering the guy out of the backfield. I’m not making this up.

Norton reads the shovel pass, gets past two blockers and makes the tackle along with Sam Acho.

Reverse to Shipley. Fools no one.

Second penalty on this drive to go along with one fumble. And we punt.

OMG! We fake it! Second fake against Baylor. Baylor.

McCoy with another good scramble off a broken play. It’s our only running game at this point.

The announcer just said the words ‘Greg Davis understands’ and ‘red zone’ in the same sentence.

3rd and 4 at the Baylor 14. Jones reception, and it’s first and goal at the 3.

Great blocks by Finley and Charlie Tanner.

OU just went up 14-7 on Iowa State.

Versus gave Dennis Miller his own sports show. I can’t possibly see how that could fail.

Bobino tries to run underneath a block. Killibrew decides to just run into one.

Nice tackle by Ishie O#$@#%%.

This is the live-blogging equivalent of the Bataan Death March.

Baylor player gets the sack and flashes the ‘Horns down. His teammates don’t have the heart to tell him the score.

Turns out he’s a vet who served in Iraq. Making fun of him means I don’t support the troops.

Better put on a tiny American flag lapel pin.

That was about a six yard punt.

Nice open field whiff by Killibrew. But he had the correct drop.

Baylor makes it 17-10 on a field goal.

Iowa St 1st and 10 on the OU 30.

Our running game has struck an iceberg.

Finley is at his most dangerous with his back to the defense.

Iowa St 1st and goal on the OU 7.

Sooners get an int in the end zone.

If Ishie was a senior, he’d be starting.

Deon Beasley with the int. Almost pulled a Jim Marshall.

We finally get a turnover when it matters.

Another offensive penalty. You can get away with that when you’re name is Justin Blalock.

Great catch by Charles. A 10.3 100m runner matched up against a caucasian linebacker.

Touchdown.

Missouri runs an int back for an early 7-0 lead over Tech.

Lots of backups in on defense. Norton, Melton, Kelson. Maybe we just like having guys whose last name ends in ‘on.’ Houston is out there as well. That must be it.

Marcus Griffin runs back an int for a touchdown.

Notre Dame players are wearing green jerseys. Charlie Weiss thinks they’re lettuce and refuses to get near them.

Interviewing Roger Clemens now. Clemens’ answers are high and inside.

This game has lasted 3 1/2 hours.

Bobino runs himself out of the play.

A&M leading Nebraska 16-14 at the half.

Our DEs keep getting held, but the refs are all like ‘fuck it.’

Another meaningless int for Griffin.

Shocking, with Chiles and our second team offensive line, we can’t run for dick against Baylor. Does that have anything to do with the fact that they know we’ll never pass it with Chiles?

Ryan Bailey is my fucking hero.

  19. Crown & Coke
    October 20, 2007 at 9:10 am

I have absolutely no confidence in Chiles’ ability to throw the ball. He looks less and less like a QB every time that I watch him.

McCoy’s pocket was intact and he just start running to his right. I understand that’s mostly served him well, but gratuitous happy feet is discouraged for a reason. Not a good throw, made lousy because McCoy was attempting to throw while running.

  35. wildcat09

McCoy is so used to getting obliterated if he stands in the pocket for more than 2 seconds that he just takes off if nobody is immediately open.

And Norton with a pic. Killebrew would have dropped it then turned it into a stew.

McCoy is a shiftier runner than Chiles today.

  44. ChrisApplewhite
    October 20, 2007 at 9:36 am

  53. wildcat09

Both safeties blew it on that play. Couldn’t tell which was which but I think Jackson whiffed on the tackle and Griffin just ran right into a blocker for no reason.

Meanwhile, Killebrew only showed up in the bottom of the frame after the WR was already in the end zone.
