Longhorns and the MLB Draft

The MLB draft is yesterday and today.

Not much damage yesterday. Kyle Russell was picked by the Dodgers with the 93rd pick in the 3rd Round. He was picked 142nd by the Cardinals last year so he made some money by coming back to school for another year. He set the Texas career home run record.

Texas signee Robbie Grossman of Cypress-Fairbanks was picked 174th by Pittsburgh in the 6th Round. He’s a switch hitting outfielder whose asking price may have caused him to fall. And who wants to play for the Pirates?

Those were the only Longhorn picks in the first six rounds. That is pretty good news.

There are four players that Texas fans need to pay attention to today.

Jordan Danks will apparently return for his senior season. It’s the second time he’s told scouts ‘thanks, but no thanks.’

Ken Kasparek is supposedly going to turn pro if he gets drafted high enough. I personally think he could make a lot more money by coming back. If he could pitch an entire season like he did the last month of this season, he would go a lot higher.

P Austin Dicharrry of Klein Collins could immediately help next year as a freshman. Signability has caused teams to back off so he could end up on campus this fall.

P Taylor Jungmann of Georgetown has also apparently told scouts that he’s going to college, and he’s also asking for a top round money.

If Texas can somehow keep Dichary, Jungmann and Grossman, this will be a great recruiting class.

But we won’t know for sure until they actually set foot on campus.

In other Todd Van Poppel news, Chipper Jones hit his 400th HR last night. And to think the Braves were thisclose to drafting the immortal TVP.

Danks just went to the White Sox with pick 210 in the 7th Round. Same team as his brother. Uh oh.

Even I’m a little surprised Danks went that low. That being said, I’d be even more surprised if he came back for another year.
