Shipely pulls a Baryshnikov and gets a toe in for 6 points. What will UT do with this lead? Are we doomed to lose now that we’ve scored first?

Ah, Bobino blows his coverage to give up a 28 yard gain on 1st and 20. There’s the linebackers we all know and love.

  101. DBH

Eleven games into the season, GD finally gets the offense clicking for an entire game, albeit against another abysmal defense. His apologists will be out in full-force, quoting yardage and scoring statistics that “prove” Mack’s loyalty is well-placed.

Fortunately, being able to run the ball and consume clock kept Tech’s offense off the field long enough that our defense wasn’t able to lose it for us. Annual defensive suckage at The University of (By God) Texas is monumentally depressing. And this defense sucks worse than most.

But Mack’s all-important “10-Win Season” is now well within reach. Aggy is horrible. If we manage to lose at Pyle, we’ll draw an easier bowl. We could still manage to back into a BCS at-large bid, with enough help. So the 10-win streak will continue, and once it’s secured, we’ll be saddled with the same inept staff, next year. Isn’t that special?

Who are we? We’re Texas! Just win 10, baby!

  102. 8straight

  103. BrickHorn

Hell, I’m missing Bobby Jack Wright. We could sure use a defense like the ‘97 Horns had.

  104. ChrisApplewhite
    November 10, 2007 at 9:42 pm

I want a better staff, don’t get me wrong, but I’m willing to see what Akina can do when he has actual NFL talent to play with next year.

However, if he takes the UCLA job or whatever, I won’t lose any sleep.

  105. AugieSpiers

  106. longhornmatt

Mike Leach has officially “Jumped the Shark”

His 10-minute tirade against Randy Christal’s officiating crew last night after the game wasn’t just weird, it was wrong. He railed against four particular plays, all of which were backed up by instant replay, and then he claimed that instant replay is just a boy’s club network to back up the incompetent refs to begin with.

The dude is a lawyer and must have known what he was doing would cost him a lot of money, hell it might even get him suspended.

The fact that he was wrong about the particulars that pissed him off makes it even more bizarre.

  108. hopefulhorn
    November 11, 2007 at 6:46 am

Well said, srr50. I am no fan of Big12 officiating, which uniformly sucks. But Leach’s tirade was so weak on the specifics that he came off as a spoiled brat throwing a tantrum.

Randy Christal has been doing Texas games for 20 years. Baseball and football. I can remember some baseball games he worked when the Wild Bunch was ready to storm the field and choke him. For years when he showed up behind the plate it was “Uh oh, Christal is working the game.”

  112. DBH

“I don’t think it should take an abundance of NFL talent at every position to field a non-shitty defense.”

Agreed. But it takes a different attitude than the one Mack encourages, as evidenced by this remark after the game:

“We had to be aggressive. We knew they were going to get their points. We told our team to expect them to score when they had the ball.”

  113. Texoz

  116. Lazlo Hollyfeld
    November 12, 2007 at 12:34 pm

  117. BrickHorn
    November 12, 2007 at 1:21 pm

Well, today he has decided to argue that Carl Reese’s defenses were crap and that Reese was an average OC, as evidenced by Reese’s defense turning the ball over four times against Colorado in ‘01. Apparently, the ‘01 defense wasn’t a good defense because it couldn’t stop Colorado from intercepting Chris Simms.
