Young Heart Attack
I’ve mourned the steady decline of rock guitar over the past 15 years. So for me it’s always refreshing to listen to a band who understands that rock and/or roll is electric guitar. Young Heart Attack is from Austin, and they’re a lot harder than your typical Austin ‘rock’ band. Better, too. Released their first album Mouthful of Love in 2004, split up two years later, then regrouped and now have a new album coming out in March.
This is an allsome video for their song ‘Starlite.’ Features pretty much every cliche in rock. Dude that looks like William Katt with a jheri curl getting chased by the cops. Hot chick with a mullet whose dad won’t let her see her boyfriend. ‘Rebel Without a Cause’ drag race. My favorite part is the shot of the dude outside the club who looks like Ed Norton as he would have appeared in the Beastie Boys’ ‘Sabotage’ video.
They’re playing tonight at Emo’s, and all the cool kids will be there. ChrisApplewhite will be at home listening to Linkin Park.
Oh, and don’t forget:

They used to play shows with my buddy’s band every once in a while. Starlite is a kickass song and they throw a ton of energy into their live shows. If you dig their sound you may like Voxtrox or old Le Tigrre… and of course, The Toadies. Another great straight up rock band that just started touring again is Superdrag. If you’ve never checked them out, I highly recommend their album “Head Trip In Every Key”.

I thought the title meant Vince had a heart attack.

Scott, I think we’ve had this discussion before, but I think Regretfully Yours is Superdrag’s best.

Hey, what’s not to like a band where the lead singer’s voice is as high as a girl’s?
I loved the 80’s back in the 80’s.

I’m starting the urban legend that that’s Sammy Hagar’s kid.

LonghornScott- Voxtrot is fucking terrible.
Personally, The Black Angels are the best band currently playing in Austin. They put on an energetic live show (I can only describe it as a wall of sound), have a smoking hot drummer (amazingly hot blond chick), and are an overall amazing band. Lead singer definitely has a Jim Morrison vibe to him

Think back to 1993-1996, anybody remember Starfish?

I’ve known Joey Shuffield (YHA’s drummer) for years, and did a lot of work for Fastball. I don’t know all that much about YHA, but I happened to be across the aisle from Joey on a flight to Chicago a few years ago, and he told me that they couldn’t get a sniff in the States, but were doing very well in Europe.
Is he playing for the current version of the band? Fastball has been gigging again, so I don’t know if he’s splitting his time or sticking with one or the other.

Shuffield is no longer in the group.

New album is awesome - maybe not as hard as the first album, but more groove and hooks - really great sound, and the band is as cool as ever live…Definitely worth seeing
