I changed my mind, the game should’ve been cancelled
I have done a complete 180 on this issue. When oil man Tex Pitfield suggested that Georgia governor Sonny Perdue call off the UGA - Alabama game to save gas, I like many others scoffed at the thought. After all, this was a huge game in the SEC, a boom to the local economy, and you know, like a really big deal and stuff, and we wanted to wear our black shirts, and you’re just a hater, man.
After attending the game in question, I now agree with the visionary Pitfield.
The game should have never been played. The gas that was wasted this weekend far outweighs anything that happened on that field. In fact, the Georgia players even came around to Pitfield’s side early Saturday afternoon. As a protest to this senseless wasting of precious petroleum, the entire Georgia team decided not to show up for the first half. Instead they loaned their uniforms to a local high school team who was nice enough to play the first 30 minutes while the UGA team picketed the governor’s mansion.
Seriously though, that sucked. I could sit here and break down everything that happened, but I don’t want to rehash it and you don’t want to read it.
There were bad penalties again, there were a couple of awful punts and kickoffs that gave Bama great field position, and there was a fluke of a fumble by AJ Green that snuffed out a possible scoring drive for the Dawgs. But the bottom line is this, Bama whipped Georgia at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. You simply can not win the war if you can’t win the battle at the front lines.
Personally I never thought this was a national championship caliber team. I did, and still do, think that they could win the SEC and have a very good season overall. But this one is gonna sting for a while.
On the bright side, at least Florida lost.

I’m not going to say “I told you so.” I just refuse to.

at least georgia had the foresight to wear black to its own funeral.

I don’t believe that you didn’t think this was an MNC team for even one second.
September 28, 2008 at 6:39 am
And I don’t give a flying fuck what you believe.

Matt Stafford is probably the most overrated player in America.

After the first half I didn’t know if Georgia would win 3 games in the SEC. After the second half I thought they could do all right, but if they show that much apathy too often they could be a 3 loss team.
I hope they do better for you mdr. They can still do some things this year, but they’ll have to improve that line play.

Tough break for UGA. I don’t see the OL and DL issues subsiding. I think they may magnify, in fact.
Did you see shades of the Tennessee game last year in Georgia’s mental state?
I like AJ Green a lot, by the way.

Getting a little sensitive mdr? I was wrong about one thing last week. I said ‘Bama was slightly overrated and the Dawgs were overrated. Sorry Tide. Hookem Tide!

mdr,
I’m sure you’re one pissed off fan right now. We’ve been there. quite a bit the last two years. A few comments:
Your losses on the OL clearly factored into the game and will continue to do so against teams with stout DLs.
Stafford got outplayed by Sarah Jessica Parker Wilson. Perhaps expectations for each need to be revised in opposite direction. Repeating the question: If Moreno doesn’t go off, can Stafford get it done on his own? Still remains to be seen.
Richt got outcoached by the I-don’t-have-fucking time-to-play-golf Prick.
Green is a stud, unfortunately so is Julio Jones.
Black Out was ultimately a distraction.

Here’s the thing about Stafford vs Wilson. Wilson was protected by his OL all night, Stafford was not. That is all you need to know. It doesn’t mean that Wilson is a better player than Stafford, it means that Bama’s pass blocking is MILES ahead of ours. I don’t care if we had John Elway in his prime, no blocking equals a very long night for the QB.

Oh, their DL is better than ours as well. Can’t forget that one.

To make matters worse, Lee Corso said both of those exact things about the lines before the game. Jesus. In one day - Huskers down & Georgia down and Shitheel whiny JoePa and Notre Dame both win.
I still feel like I just got fistfucked by Andre the Giant.

I’ve seen some literature floating around the interweb of an underground “Pirate Out” movement for the Tech/UT game. This should be equally entertaining and embarassing. Plus, it will make for some legendary farking material.

The pirate thing is downright hilarious.
September 29, 2008 at 11:22 am
Oh, Jesus, I’m pissing my pants at the thought of Pirate Time.
One of the great sights on TV is shots of the guys that paint themselves from head to toe or dress beyond stupidly and their team is getting shellacked. Love the sight of their mouths hanging open like bulldozer scoops as the reality sets in that they’re about to look really “special” wandering about town like a drag queen who walked under the ladder when the bucket spilled.
Of course, when this happens to guys who do this shit at other campuses, it can be magical.
