Commitment #14
Joining recent Horn commit Barrett Matthews from North Shore is commitment #14 Trey Graham from Waco Midway.
Trey was recently mitsvahed at Temple Beth Israel in Mart. He will be an early enrollee in ‘09 if he doesn’t intern at B’Nai Brth.
Welcome aboard, Trey.

Mazel Tov Trey!
Hava Nagila!

Oi Vey.

Is it me, or does his ‘fro have alignment issues?

More evidence of a Seder Change in Mack’s recruiting.
March 5, 2008 at 5:36 am
Mack Brown isn’t welcome in the West Bank.
March 5, 2008 at 7:38 am
Yeah, just not enough room for Russell Shepard.

the kid has a 98.5 average in school, for heavens sakes!
seriously, I’m thinking the staff is seeing all these TE’s as athletes. If they work out at TE, great. If not, they may be moved elsewhere in time.
March 5, 2008 at 8:00 am
Who are you? John Mackovic?
March 5, 2008 at 8:18 am
Boy this guys is scary. One look and OU will go running the other way.

Hilarious Mitsvah comment… It’s good to be a cultured group on the team. Now if we can only get Colt to turn him into a Messianic…

I actually have a serious question. When have we ever moved a player from one position to another with great success during Brown’s tenure? Redding from LB to DE coming in doesn’t really count. When have we had a player, and shifted gears mid-tenure and had them produce on the field? I can’t think of one, but I can think of quite a few failures.

Marcus Tubbs. Maurice Gordon.

How many Stars of David did Rivals give him?
March 5, 2008 at 9:31 am
The only thing that come to mind is the south park episode when cartman turns into a GINGER!! LMAO
Were trying something different from the black athlete were gonna field a team of Gingers!!!

Satan, I guess players often get moved around while in the program because they aren’t doing well where they were, which inherently makes it less likely they’ll be a star elsewhere.
Some others who moved and had relative success at other positions: Brian Robison (LB to DE), Thomas Marshall (OT to DT), Henry Melton (RB to DE), Ramonce Taylor (between CB(?), WR and RB), Beau Trahan (QB to ST). I assume guys who moved between S and CB don’t really count, but there have been a number of those.
But your point is generally correct, the mid-career position change usually ends up like Eric Foreman or Eric Hall rather than Brian Robison.

Apparently Sideshow Bob’s progeny have an affinity for Texas.
March 5, 2008 at 10:45 am
I dont’ think Ramonce ever spent any real time at CB, and I also don’t think Melton belongs on that list as he hasn’t shown much yet. Robison is a good example, though.
March 5, 2008 at 11:38 am
Jeremy Jones was equally effective at WR and CB. We’ve had a few spin downs work out, and a few spin ups (spins up?) from TE to OL.
I don’t think we’ve had any TE to DE but other teams have certainly done it. Marcus Spears being one.
March 5, 2008 at 11:44 am
Tubbs showed up at Texas weighing 275 so he was a DT from the get go.
March 5, 2008 at 11:52 am
“…and I also don’t think Melton belongs on that list as he hasn’t shown much yet.”
I don’t agree with that. Melton performed well when called upon last year.
March 5, 2008 at 12:03 pm
I’d hate to be on his bad side. I’ll bet he’s vicious.
March 5, 2008 at 1:34 pm
Quan was a QB/S in high school. Dakari was a QB, too. Tony Hills was a TE.
Just to name a few more.
March 5, 2008 at 1:53 pm
I think the question is about guys who started playing one position at Texas and then switched to another position. Maurice Gordon and Brian Robison are the best examples so far.
March 5, 2008 at 2:43 pm
D.D. Lewis.
March 5, 2008 at 3:53 pm
Vince Young. Didn’t he get switched to WR?
March 5, 2008 at 4:04 pm
I think Mack is giving scholarships to guys he’s like to introduce to his Granddaughters. Maybe he’s a baller, but I’d bet my house he won’t beat out any TE’s currently on the roster or yet to arrive or even future TE’s. His GPA will be nice though.
If we get stuck having to make a decision between 2 bad-asses at the end of the year, I’m gonna be pissed that we signed this obvious homocidal maniac.

It’s funny how people are already linking Gilbert with Sims!

The Major sure as hell won’t make that mistake.

Aaron Humphrey from MLB (under Mackovic) to DE.
all three of the starting LB’s inherited had positive position shifts courtesy of Reese;
Hump, Nava from OLB to situational DT and Renfro from OLB to MLB.
–upon reflection, it’s as if Mackovic was trying to field the slowest defense possible.
