I’m not convinced Mack is guilty, because I’m not convinced he makes any decisions. He seems to give the coordinators a lot of freedom…and right now we’re suffering from the same symptom with LB’s and Coordinators: loyalty for time spent vs. accountability for job done. Keeping Mack is fine with me, if we’d only get hungrier OC/DC’s.

I don’t know if our playcalling could possibly be any more predictable. How many balls is that batted down at the line now?

Mack Brown is not an average coach. There is no summary of relevant metrics which could lead any intelligent person to that conclusion.

Now, am I happy with him? Not at the moment, I’m not. But he’s earned my support (and ironically, he did so long before the 2005 season).

I also think it’s far too simplistic an argument to claim that our BCS title is all due to Vince Young. No doubt Vince put the team over the top, but my God, there was a TON Of talent on that team at other positions.

Above average coaches don’t lose by 20 when favored by 14. AT HOME.

If not losing by 20 when favored by 14 at home were the differentiator between “average” and “above average” coaches, then there wouldn’t be any “above average” coaches.

Shit happens. It doesn’t happen to Mack Brown as often as it happens to the vast majority of coaches. That puts him well above average.

Is he Pete Carroll? No. Is he Bob Stoops or Jim Tressell? Well, that’s a closer horse race. Seriously, how many guys out there are CLEARLY better, when all aspects of the job are weighted appropriately? (I would argue that “winning” should be pretty fucking high on that list, by the way, and you will look like a complete fool if you discount Mack Brown’s winning percentage.)

Mack did a great job in getting Vince here and winning the MNC, but take those years out, and things aren’t so clap clap clap clap. He flatters to deceive by racking up 10-win seasons — but failing to deliver wins when they’re really needed.

But that shouldn’t matter against teams like Arkansas State, Central Florida, and, frankly, K State (full credit to them for today, though). I’m resigned to this being the ’standard’ until Mack gets shown the door. Unfortunately, since we’re paying him top dollar to average 1 CC every decade, he’ll stay until he has driven the program into Akersian territory.

The problem with Johnson (?) and Nelson is that they aren’t David Allen. I don’t think kicking away from them was part of the game plan, and frankly, it didn’t need to be. That was just flat out horrible special teams coaching, and like I said . . . what is old Coach Mac Duff here for?

Y’all like to credit Vince Young for Mack’s good fortune. I continue to think it was more Dick Tomey, and as time goes on, I just get more convinced I am right.

I really thought that halftime had turned the game around.. pouring rain, all the lazy fucking alumni left, and the student section started getting fucking wild. I was like “this reminds me of Okie state 2004″.. our team didn’t get the memo.

Speaking of prison infirmaries, at least Mack has established our program as a paragon of good conduct, a team that the great state of Texas can be proud of and that Longhorns past, present and future can look up to — wins or losses, we’ll always have that.

I’m pretty sure that Captain Conservative gives after each paycheck clears the bank.

At halftime, I was absolutely certain that we were going to lose. This is a feeling I haven’t experienced in quite some time.

3 things really stand out to me right now:

1.) The shameless neglect of Jermichael Finley and Billy Pittman on offense.
2.) The fact that a possession receiver is in charge of our kick returns.
3.)Our offensive line is as bad as it has ever been in the entire MB Era.

By the end of the game today, I felt like such a homer for allowing myself to start having delusions of a BCS berth. We should’ve all seen this coming, lord knows the writing has been on the wall since week 1.

Greg Davis is worse than a waste of space — I might be able to put myself at ease with his horrible playcalling if I wasn’t terrified that he’s going to end up putting Colt McCoy in the hospital. There’s just no excuse for what that poor kid’s being put through.

The main difference between Mackovic and Mack is that

a) Mack gets along with alumni
b) Mack recruited Vince Young
and
c) Mack doesn’t lose to the Baylors of the world

That’s really about it. They both consistently have featured fundamentally unsound units and the propensity to get blown out at inopportune times.

I’m no coach, but it seems to me that a steady dose of something other than passes might be a good idea against a 3-4 defense. I realize that Jamaal Charles doesn’t scream “between the tackles”, but Vondrell McGee appears to be capable of taking a beating.
