Texas Football: Liveblogging Texas/Kansas State

Pre-game

Our Big 12 Opener.

A statement game.

The statement being either: We Can Beat A Team Headed To The Kwanza Bowl or Please Shoot Me In The Face.

I read in Franchione’s private newsletter that Josh Freeman is dating Kate Olsen. A lot in common.

Weather.com says that the high today will be around 89 degrees with high humidity. This favors the team that sweats most efficiently. Please don’t show any close ups of Mad Dog.

We drew Ron Franklin for this broadcast. That sits well with me.

We’re 50-5 at home under Mack Brown.

VY does the pregame coin flip. We need to get him breeding immediately. A guaranteed 2027 National Title.

1st half

I expect us to come out with an aggressive offensive gameplan where we take it to Kansas St right away.

I also expect to win the lottery tomorrow.

KSU ball. Freeman hits Jordy for 8. Bobino gets horrifically juked by Freeman allowing the first down. Those 6-6 250 pound guys can be elusive. Inside screen to Jordy for 13. Bobino makes me laugh out loud with how he plays that. Amazing. KSU’s early game plan is entirely focused on our LB corps.

Nelson the workhorse - 3 catches so far.

3rd down and a pubic hair. Sneak?

No. Simple base run for a 1st.

Ron Prince thinks on the 35,000 foot level according to announcers. We’re thinking at sea level.

Freeman throws for another first. He’s 4 for 4 for 43.

Another first. He’s destroying our soft zone. We’re giving 18 yard cushions.

Our corner blows a tackle on the edge. Beasley. Palmer is the only corner on our team who wants contact.

Derry makes a nice tackle on their base play.

Candy from a baby TD to Nelson with a simple cross pick play.

That drive was a methodical rape.

As Bill Parcells says,”Teams don’t change. Your opponent every week does.”

Freeman was 6 of 6 on that drive. 7-0 Kitty Cats.

Texas ball.

We open with the horizontal run. No gain. Nice throw by Colt on 3rd for the first.

We’re in full Hunt N Peck mode. Quan Cosby padding his gaudy per catch average.

John Chiles at QB! An easy ten yard run.

Chiles stays on the field. Nice. Another 9 yard reception.

And he’s gone. It was fun. Props to GD.

JC runs twice for about 7 total. 3rd & short.

KSU is giving our slot WR a huge crushion. Colt hits Nate Jones for an easy 8.

First and goal.

McGee runs hard. A much better short yardage guy than JC. Ulatoski gets no push at the point of attack.

We’re going for it on 4th. Big play. Touchdown Vondrell! Lokey destroyed the KSU LB.

Tie ball game.

KSU ball. We need a 3 and out badly.

Deion Murphy drops an easy ball.

KSU screen - Bobino runs under the block and our playside LB completely vacates. Easy 11. What the fuck are we doing at LB, folks?

KSU is smart. They’re playing double tight with max protect. It’s taking our DL completely out of the game and allowing them to hone in on the Back 7.

KSU running the ball well too. Our playside DL doubled. Derry whiffs. James Johnson is 4 for 24 rushing the ball.

3rd and 3. Easy conversion.

More max protect. This is the most transparent game plan I’ve ever seen. Akina is just the sort of far-ranging intellect who will quickly adjust on the fly.

Jordy tries the WR option pass. We play it OK. In Ames, Gene Chizik just sprinted forward fifteen yards for no reason as it happened.

Big 4th down. Freeman is 11 of 12. KSU had the right call on our blitz, but Freeman blows the throw. It would have been an easy TD. Carl Reese lives.

JC breaks a nice little run of 12 out of the shotgun.

We throw a 1 yard pass to Sweed that KSU jumps. Jesus Christ.

3rd and long. McCoy sacked. A terrible series there. We needed to go and get points.

Watch out for the KSU punt return.

Okam almost gets Freeman. Nice rush. Freeman hits a short one.

Finally, the young LBs are in. Muck makes a nice tackle for short gain. Big 3rd down. Norton gets a good lick and knocks a helmet off. 1st down though.

Killebrew juked in the open field when he has the angle and the sack. Embarrassing.

Norton gets a great TFL. Notice a fucking trend?

3rd and long. Nice coverage by Beasley on the fade.

Quan is a lethargic punt returner. I know he’s there for his hands, but he had some great blocking there and sort of limped up the field with no authority. Love the Quan, but he’s not a creator.

Texas ball.

Colt sails a pass to an open WR. He’s not accustomed to throwing more than 3 yards.

Chiles in at QB. Gets 5 yards on QB sweep. Three Chiles plays = 24 yards.

We finally challenge downfield with Sweed. He almost makes the play.

KSU’s defense is doing a great job against us minus the opening drive.

I’m quite impressed with the KSU coaching job thus far.

KSU ball.

If we don’t see the young LB’s, I’m going to smash. Everything.

Jordy drops a 1st down ball. Youngsters are in. Another KSU drop.

3rd and long. Beasley has nice single coverage again. 3 and out.

Young LBs = 3 and out. A shocking coincidence.

Killebrew with a block in the back on the punt return. Somehow the refs don’t see it. Arguably the most frustrating football player in Texas history.

CU just intercepted against the Sooners. They get the ball at the Sooner 44 with a chance to tie.

Texas ball.

CU punted. OU fumbles. CU now has the ball on the Sooner 16.

Colt misses Pittman. We dink for 3. 3rd and long - GD’s favorite down.

KSU has scouted us beautifully, which is to say that they are moderately competent.

CU ties OU. TD pass.

14-7 KSU. Colt McCoy throws it to KSU for a TD. But I thought short passes were safe? I just don’t get it. Football is so hard.

Colt hammered on an incompletion. Hurt, but still in.

We throw a pass 14 yards down the field to Nate Jones. Electrifying. Is this legal?

Another pass deflected at LOS Three yard routes don’t allow much loft, Greg.

Coming up: 3rd and 10, GD’s signature down. Pass interference, thank God.

TD, Quan Cosby. Amazing. Every off schedule play Colt runs where he runs around and the receiver breaks up a route, we end up with a big play. Everytime we operate within the offense, we punt.

Ironic that Vince is there to see that.

14-14 ballgame.

Make that 21-14, Cats. Kansas State special teams — who could have predicted that? Oh, just anyone with access to electricity.

Ballgame — Colorado beats OU.

Nice runback on the KOR by Cosby. We needed that.

Another pick by McCoy as the KSU blitz nails him. McCoy is hurt. Possibly done.

Charlie Tanner chose to double the nose before the LB declared his intention. Stupid football.

An interesting comment on our team: Colt McCoy on the ground hurt and the Texas OL and WRs walk off the field looking backwards as if its of moderate interest to them. The only guy there to offer assistance or inquire about his health is the official. Dallas Griffin half jogged off looking at Colt as if the ten yard walk back to him was too trying.

That picture was worth a thousand words to me.

24-14 Wildcats. They’re by far the better coached, more cohesive football team.

It’s now the John Chiles show. Colt is done.

Mack’s halftime interview. Attributes the score to “three plays.”

He’ll never get it. Unfortunate.

3rd quarter

Colt is back and so is Greg. The dink to Finley flops in the air begging to be picked.

Our greatest offensive play: the broken play. Big pass to Ghost Shipley.

Another almost to Sweed. Chiles in. A little 4 yard run. Chiles out.

3rd down. Great play by Colt. Nice cutback. Again, the broken play is our best play. The more we ignore our OC, the better we play.

Colt sacked. KSU is getting pressure without overblitzing. People will babble about KSU blitzing us after the game - including our coaches - but they’re rushing four 85% of the time.

Another tipped ball on a short pass.

Greg Davis’ business card says 3rd and 14 on it.

Great catch by Finley on a gutty throw by Colt. Broken record: our best plays are broken plays.

TD, JC. 24-21, Wildcats.

Jordy Nelson is destroying us. He’s their only WR threat and he’s double digit in catches halfway through the third. Perhaps, just perhaps, double him.

Or have a DB cover him?

Nice play by Death Ewok after Freeman flushes from pressure.

3rd and long. Davis just sent a play over to the KSU booth.

3rd and long. Colt throws his third pick. The ball was batted.

Being reviewed. Play will stand. Mack is clapping.

KSU has a big opportunity here.

The trickeration does not work. Gene Chizik’s leg just twitched.

We cover Nelson with a DB. Incompletion.

Big 3rd down. Greg Davis just mouthed the words Tunnel Screen to Prince.

KSU nails the 44 yard field goal. KSU-27 UT-21

KSU fans have been drying their acid washed jeans on the stadium bleachers.

Jean jackets are off.

Texas ball.

We dink to Finley for 0. Jesus.

Hall facing Ian Campbell after Ulatoski injury. Not good.

KSU CB jumps route to Shipley. Uncatchable. We punt.

Greg Davis has been nothing short of horrific.

KSU punt return TD. That was predictable, given that I predicted it.

Larry MacDuff is a special teams whiz. Two kick returns for TDs.

Would we get in trouble if we inserted Vince into the game? We could have him put in Sweed’s jersey.

Another tip, another pick. This will be blamed on Colt by the ignorant, but we should be focusing on the swamp and not the mosquito.

This is Greg Davis’ worst performance in quite a while. That’s saying something. We’ve spent the entire game in 3rd and long after an unsuccessful run and a dink pass.

4th quarter

KSU continues to run very effectively.

Think of Mack’s halftime comments: three plays. He doesn’t understand that KSU’s players are operating on a systematic advantage on every snap.

We don’t self-scout, we’re about as introspective as Wayne Newton.

We’re being blown out at home by a Big 12 North team. 41-21, Wildcats.

KSU walked in our house, slapped our wife on the ass, put their feet up on our coffee table, and watched Hogan’s Heroes reruns while picking their teeth and making us bring them cokes.

Mack Brown is looking at the field as if he has no comprehension of what’s happening.

Let me eliminate the words “as if” and insert “because.”

We haven’t won any phase of this game and Ron Prince has mindfucked our coaching staff thoroughly.

If football was hand grenades, Limas Sweed would have three TDs right now.

Unfortunately, no hand grenades to roll at our staff.

Greg Davis would pick up the hand grenade and throw it two yards away from him.

Akina would blitz it.

Bruce Chambers would take a nap on it.

Mack would hug it.

Horrible, but necessary question: Would it actually be more beneficial to our long term program to lose this game 62-21?

Ron Prince chewing Freeman’s ass despite the game being in hand. In some areas, that’s known as coaching.

A standard of play is enforced irrespective of the score. A concept totally unknown to us.

Colt underthrows Quan - would have gone for 6.

Colt’s incompletion falls thirty yards from any eligible receiver.

We’re an offensive embarassment.

We go for it on 4th down and Colt swings it the flat. I want to laugh. I want to cry.

Killebrew trying to get into a fight. Predictable. If you fight Killebrew, he’ll miss on 19 consecutive haymakers and collapse in exhaustion if you just move your head slightly to the right and left.

Nice hit by Muck.

KSU will punt and we’ll get to see more of our debacle of an offense.

Chiles throws on the money to Finley. A vertical pass. The crowd cheers.

Colt is 19 of 39 for 200 with 1 pick and 4 interceptions. Extraordinary.

Chiles almost throws a pick.

Why am I still documenting this? I feel like I’m writing Eva Braun’s journal at Eagle’s Nest.

Rashad Bobino voted player of the game for Texas. I wish I’d made that up.

Texas blown out at home.

Congrats to KSU. Their coaches did a tremendous job and they played hard.

Palmer and Bobino whif on the screen.

  2. wildcat09
    September 29, 2007 at 11:47 am

Our back 7 looked absolutely awful on that drive. Linebackers were picked apart and why were we giving Jordy an 8 yard cushion inside the 5?

    PB:

It’s our attempt at a counter. It’s not pretty.
GD is trying to catch them in a slant and get a big run. The problem is if you don’t hit it, you have a lot of runs for 0 and -1.

    Love Vondrell on the goalline.

Anyone else notice how many UT players walked over to see if Colt was OK when he was laying on the turf?

It’s a small number, less than one.

I’d think rain would help UT. We’re more of a running team than KSU, especially if Chiles takes over. Except that’ll probably drive most of the fans towards the exits.

  59. Lnghrn95
    September 29, 2007 at 1:28 pm

The day after we won the Rose Bowl, I sat with a few buddies at a restaurant on the beach in Santa Monica. We were chatting about that game…and I expressed my sole concern post-championship was that Mack and our program would look like Fulmer and Tenn…or Carr and Michigan. I hate that I’m looking dead-on in that regard.

It’s very disheartening to see how poorly we are coached and the lack of fire this team has to go out and play a game they presumably love.

    Mac,

I’m not convinced Mack is guilty, because I’m not convinced he makes any decisions. He seems to give the coordinators a lot of freedom…and right now we’re suffering from the same symptom with LB’s and Coordinators: loyalty for time spent vs. accountability for job done. Keeping Mack is fine with me, if we’d only get hungrier OC/DC’s.

This is like the Wazzu Holiday Bowl Redux.

As long as Mack Brown is the HC of this team, We will be doomed to this kind of crap. Without a once in a lifetime special player, Mack and his merry band of retard, retread coaches will be happy to cash 5-6 figure checks that we sweat and pay for.

I know it goes against the MO of this website, but seriously, Macanudo, if you think Mack needs to be reassigned then you are completely fucked in the head.

I’m not saying this was a gem, because it was horrible. A failure in almost all aspects of the game — coaching, execution, you name it. But the fact remains that this team will ALWAYS win on talent more than coaching, and right now, we’re down on talent.

Are we at KSU’s level? No, probably not at more positions than not, but we’re pretty weak at several positions.

Whatever, this will sink like it should. Fire Mack or reassign Mack and I’m never buying another ticket again. That is so fucking ridiculous that I would NEVER want to be associated with the University sports programs if that happened.

Hey, that’s your opinion. Mack has shown NOTHING in his 20+ years as a HC that he can win without some Super Man on his team.

We just had our most lopsided home loss since Route 66.

Jimmy, if we have to win on talent BECAUSE of the coaching, what does that tell you? Mack has outlived his usefulness and we are in for a return to 2000-2004 where we finish second to someone else. This team had the talent to beat KSU. It didn’t have the coaching.

For pity’s sake, 9 guys from last year’s team are on NFL squads this year. You don’t think that hurts a team?

I never . . . NEVER . . . in a million years thought that Texas fans would be so fickle as to call for Mack Brown’s head less than 2 years removed from a national championship, but thanks to Macanudo, I am reminded that we have some of the most spoiled, un-deserving fans in college football.

I couldn’t agree more. We’re truly down on talent in the places where it really matters — the coaching booth, defensive coordinators, etc.

The buck stops with Mack. What we’re seeing this season isn’t anything new or out of the ordinary; it’s the same failures from the coordinator positions — particularly from GD — that we’ve been seeing for a long time.

I’ve wanted Mack’s head since the 40 and 50 point losses to OU. The MNC bought him maybe one year for me. KSU, A&M and Iowa last year did nothing to make me think he had learned ANYTHING after the ass kickings of 2000-2004. Texas doesn’t lose to OU by 50 points. That’s unpossible.

Folks, we just lost but TWENTY POINTS at home to a less talented team. Ron Prince OUT COACHED Mack Brown who is probably paid 2-4 times as much.

    September 29, 2007 at 3:23 pm

There is a lot of truth both to what JimmyJazz and Macanudo are saying. It IS ridiculous that we’re calling for someone’s head 2 years after a national title. You take a step away and look at that statement, and it is absolutely stupid and ridiculous. But that being said, we’re looking at a situation where outside of the anomaly of a freak at QB that inherently masked all of our coaching weaknesses, we have a staff that fails to self-scout, refuses to learn from their mistakes, and habitually makes excuses for their own performance (3 bad plays half-time speech, etc.). As a fan, this is frustrating to watch. What is inherently more frustrating…to have a shitty staff that recruits averagely aned has coaching weaknesses, or having a team with as much talent as any other team in the country, and the only thing stopping you from a dynasty style program such as USC is a refusal to put the best players on the field and a failure to recognize and impart basic coaching fundamentals? I would dare say it’s actually the latter. If Vince Young never came to UT, and instead went to Miami…what do you think you’d be saying about this program right now? Is it unjust to look at Lloyd Carr or Phil Fulmer as relative failures? R.C. Slocum? It may seem harsh or entitled, but I don’t really think there’s anything wrong in recognizing a problem and exorcising it immediately. It’s like not seeking treatment for cancer and thinking that giving it time to heal is all that’s required.

We don’t have that. Maybe it’s Chiles, but who knows. It’s not just that we’re down on talent. Where we have some talent, it’s not getting enough of an opportunity to influence our play (positively or negatively).

There’s a disease in this program. And it starts with Mack.

I’m not calling for his head or anything, but looking at the guy today, it’s DKR redux from 1976. He’s a wreck and he won’t last much longer. Not a Vermeil-type burnout, but in the ballpark.

Now, am I happy with him? Not at the moment, I’m not. But he’s earned my support (and ironically, he did so long before the 2005 season).

I also think it’s far too simplistic an argument to claim that our BCS title is all due to Vince Young. No doubt Vince put the team over the top, but my God, there was a TON Of talent on that team at other positions.

If not losing by 20 when favored by 14 at home were the differentiator between “average” and “above average” coaches, then there wouldn’t be any “above average” coaches.

Shit happens. It doesn’t happen to Mack Brown as often as it happens to the vast majority of coaches. That puts him well above average.

Is he Pete Carroll? No. Is he Bob Stoops or Jim Tressell? Well, that’s a closer horse race. Seriously, how many guys out there are CLEARLY better, when all aspects of the job are weighted appropriately? When you go spouting bullshit like “Mack Brown is not an average coach. There is no summary of relevant metrics which could lead any intelligent person to that conclusion”, you’re making it too easy for me.

Let’s see: one Big 12 title in nine years. One conference title in 20 years of coaching. Losing to OU 5 years in a row (including a shutout and them hanging 65 on us). Struggling to beat teams with far inferior talent on a consistent basis.

Mack did a great job in getting Vince here and winning the MNC, but take those years out, and things aren’t so clap clap clap clap. He flatters to deceive by racking up 10-win seasons — but failing to deliver wins when they’re really needed.

Are we down on talent? Certainly when compared to the MNC season, and perhaps a fair bit from last season. But that shouldn’t matter against teams like Arkansas State, Central Florida, and, frankly, K State (full credit to them for today, though). Talent isn’t the issue here — the talent is hamstrung by poor strategy, coaching and decision making. The problems on both sides of the ball are nothing new, it’s the same stuff we’ve been seeing for many years. Yet for some reason, Mack can’t or won’t do anything to remedy it.

I am glad we won, but Texas losing like that at home doesnt do any good for the big 12 as you guys are really the flagship for the Conf,so take it for what its worth but from someone that was in the press booth watching, it just seemed your LB’s were lost and you didnt run the ball enough against us.

On the last 4th and 8, Colt was looking to Limas on a slant. Limas ran a seriously lazy route - no separation - and Colt through the ‘out’. You can see he goes to Limas as they walk off and asks him about it. He doesn’t like the answer, throws up his hands and cocks his head back.

Ron Prince is a13 inch porcupine dildo. Greg Davis is the chick tied up in the corner from Natural Born Killers. Mack Brown is Terry Schiavo. Jordy Nelson is Peter North. Colt McCoy is Cool Hand Luke trying to fight Dragline. Texas’ special teams are employees of the Bunny Ranch. Robert Killebrew is a caged fight between Mike Tyson and Michael Vick’s pitbulls. Texas alumni section is a combination of the wicked witch of the west and the aliens from Signs. The chick in front of us who stayed through the rainstorm with her tissue-thin white shirt and matching bra is, well, I can’t think of anything clever but shes not leaving my brain anytime soon. “If any of you think our fanbase in general doesn’t have a high sense of entitlement, then you need to get out more.”

That sense of entitlement and the willingness to pay top dollar for results is what separates the football powerhouses from the mediocre programs. You need to get out more if you think we are different than Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, OU, the entire SEC, etc.

We just lost 41-21 at home to fucking Kansas State, that’s how he’s a fucking average coach.

At halftime, I was absolutely certain that we were going to lose. This is a feeling I haven’t experienced in quite some time.

3 things really stand out to me right now:

1.) The shameless neglect of Jermichael Finley and Billy Pittman on offense.
2.) The fact that a possession receiver is in charge of our kick returns.
3.)Our offensive line is as bad as it has ever been in the entire MB Era.

By the end of the game today, I felt like such a homer for allowing myself to start having delusions of a BCS berth. We should’ve all seen this coming, lord knows the writing has been on the wall since week 1.

  191. jimmyjazz

Last year, The Greatest Coach Who Ever Lived led the mighty USC Trojans to a road loss against a 4-3 Oregon State team. A few weeks later, he repeated the trick against a 6-5 UCLA squad.

Bob Stoops’ Sooners just lost to Colorado. COLORADO. Jim Tressel has had his moments with Ohio State, including (stay with me here) losses to Northwestern and Purdue just 2 years from a national title.

Larry Coker was, well, you know what Larry Coker was.

Les Miles is a functional idiot. To his credit, he has hired better positional coaches than Mack Brown has, so bully for him. That’s on Mack to fall behind Les at ANYTHING (besides cheating, which may or may not be a reality in Baton Rouge).

Golden Boy Urban Meyer hasn’t hardly had a chance to fuck up yet. Let’s see how that turns out.

Where I’m going with this is that y’all blast Mack for specific issues that EVERY good coach — even the best — go through. NOBODY wins every game. Most every team loses at least once a year, and the few that don’t rarely do it that often.

If you want to blast Mack for not being the best coach ever, then fine, I’m right there with you. If you think he’s not one of the ten best in the college game right now you are absolutely delusional.

    Regardless, you

    Oh, yeah:

    – no, I don’t know what that little sentence fragment is all about

    – yes, I realize Mack has won only one conference title

By the way, when I referred to Mackovic’s conference titles being “worthless”, I wasn’t saying that meant “SWC”. Even his Big XII title was nothing but a fleeting moment of glory. That team likely wasn’t as good as the average Texas team of the past decade.

Greg Davis is worse than a waste of space — I might be able to put myself at ease with his horrible playcalling if I wasn’t terrified that he’s going to end up putting Colt McCoy in the hospital. There’s just no excuse for what that poor kid’s being put through.

    September 29, 2007 at 6:42 pm

A few things I’d like to see in the near future, but probably won’t for a long time.

    - A screen pass to the RB in response to the D-line mauling the QB (is that play even it the mythical UT playbook?)
    - The best players on the field
    - A Texas team that’s prepared, fired up and ready to play prior to the kick off
    - A Big 12 Championship
    - My wife inventing an energy drink called Liquid Libido

  198. CrazyJoeDavola
    September 29, 2007 at 6:45 pm

The main difference between Mackovic and Mack is that

    a) Mack gets along with alumni
    b) Mack recruited Vince Young
    and
    c) Mack doesn’t lose to the Baylors of the world

That’s really about it. They both consistently have featured fundamentally unsound units and the propensity to get blown out at inopportune times.

  199. Longhorn_Steve
    September 29, 2007 at 6:46 pm

right now i’d settle for a play on 4th and 15 that isn’t a 3 yard out route.

  200. jimmyjazz
    September 29, 2007 at 6:47 pm

I’m no coach, but it seems to me that a steady dose of something other than passes might be a good idea against a 3-4 defense. I realize that Jamaal Charles doesn’t scream “between the tackles”, but Vondrell McGee appears to be capable of taking a beating.

“NOBODY wins every game.” Do top 10 teams get beat by 20 at home? To unranked teams? Two years removed from a MNC?

No. And top programs don’t get beat by 40-50 points by their rivals. EVER. Let alone within 2-3 years.

I’m not going to change your opinion and you won’t change mine.

But Mack has plateaued. There is no loftier height for him. He shot his wad and now it’s all about cashing fat paychecks for him and his washed up, retread friends.

  203. adam
    September 29, 2007 at 6:50 pm

“mauling the QB (is that play even it the mythical UT playbook?)”

“Mauling the QB”? Yes, but we call it “Greg 2.”

Not to be confused with “Greg 1,” which is where the QB looks for a receiver horizontal from him, on the theory that behind-the-line-of-scrimmage is statistically the least likely place to be defended. It’s a brilliant feat of strategy and statistical mathematics, really. He used his slide rule.

  204. jimmyjazz
    September 29, 2007 at 6:56 pm

Well, 2 years from a national title Ohio State dropped 3 in a row, including

    Northwestern 33 tOSU 27 (Evanston)
    Wisconsin 24 tOSU 13 (Columbus)
Iowa 33 tOSU 7 (Iowa City)

    and then

Purdue 24 tOSU 17 (West Lafayette)

so no, I guess that stellar showing doesn’t match your hysterical fit about one home loss by 20 to an unranked team. Maybe you think the Buckeye should have fired Tressel. No doubt you have some good reason to blast their results last year, since they sucked in the BCS title game.

I’m not saying Mack Brown is doing the best job possible. I’m saying he’s doing a better job than all but about 5 coaches.

From the Statesman: “Texas quarterback Colt McCoy suffered a mild concussion in the Kansas State loss Saturday.

According to UT officials, McCoy will be evaluated again early next week to see if he can play against Oklahoma.

McCoy left the game before halftime, but returned and played much of the second half. ***He was pulled again late in the fourth quarter after he started throwing up on the sidelines.***”

Of course everyone loses, but there is a clear 20-year pattern of systemic issues that dog Mack all the way back to North Carolina.

The problem isn’t losing. It’s reverting to the same problems that a magnificent player was able to push away for two years.
