2013 RB Dontre' Wilson will officially visit the Texas Longhorns

Dontre' Wilson - SB Nation Recruiting

The speedster from DeSoto will take an official visit to Texas just before Signing Day.

The Texas Longhorns got some good news last night when it was confirmed that 2013 running back Dontre' Wilson from DeSoto will take an official visit to Austin this weekend ($). Wilson, who holds a Texas offer, has been committed to the Oregon Ducks since May. Though he remains committed, he reopened his recruitment after head coach Chip Kelly left to take a job in the NFL.

Just prior to the news of his Texas visit, reports stated that Wilson was "50-50" between Oregon and the Ohio St. Buckeyes. Urban Meyer and the OSU coaching staff have been recruiting Wilson aggressively in hopes of flipping the top 100 back. Wilson had also tentatively scheduled a visit to the Oklahoma St. Cowboys this weekend, previously considered the third school on his list.

The Longhorns coaching staff had stopped by DeSoto last week ($) in a "last-ditch" effort to convince Wilson to consider Texas. It appears that pitch may have worked, and give credit to new playcaller Major Applewhite for bending Wilson's ear. Although Wilson may still go with Oregon or Ohio St. at the end of the day, it doesn't hurt to give it the ol' college try.

Applewhite, who plans to install more spread concepts into the offense, may have piqued WIlson's interest by talking about the offense's transition. As Burnt Orange Nation's Wescott Eberts points out:

Perhaps just as important, Texas showed that they are now willing to speed up the tempo to run more plays and tire out defenses, a buzz that has continued into the offseason. If Texas is going to start looking more and more like Oregon, it would only stand to reason that would help the 'Horns. More plays equals more touches for guys like [Daje] Johnson and Wilson.

Eberts goes on to note that Texas does not have a committed running back in the 2013 class. This gives Applewhite the opportunity to sell Wilson as the feature back for 2013 rather than as a specialty, all-purpose back.

Wilson plans to announce his decision on Sunday, almost immediately following his official visit to Texas. Stay tuned.
