Barking Bets Week 2

I’m headed out to El Paso tomorrow and there’s no guarantee I’ll have a connection. For that reason, some brief betting write ups. I’ve been capping these since the lines came out. Big card this week. Let’s keep that train rolling. Up 1.9 units going to week 2.

Northwestern -6.5 @ Duke 1 unit. Brent Musberger vs. Bobby Hurley. Good grief this line should be a pick. I’ll take Northwestern because they are better at matriculating the ball. Wildcats by 14.

Holy shit, Big and Rich are playing at the Republican National Convention. Give me Musberger.

taxes
Confusing like a 3-3-5.

Georgia Tech +7.5 @ Boston College 2 units. Chan Gailey and Matt Ryan are gone. Two wins for the Jackets. Add one of the most underrated coaches in college football in Paul Johnson. If Mike Leach is Barrack Obama, Johnson is Ronald Reagan. Tech spends the afternoon confounding the BC defense with 10 first downs in the first half and trickle down economics. That’s two more first downs than the Jackets achieved in the entire month of September 2007 and more economics courses than the entire Miami Hurricane defense has attended since the school’s inception. GA Tech wins by a field goal.

Miami +21 @ Florida 1 unit. Hawaii played Florida much closer than people think. Florida’s defense is porous and Miami has young coaching star Randy Shannon. The Gators will need to get in the 40’s to cover. Gimme that bet everytime with a team of athletes and a well coached defense. 35-24 Florida.

Central Michigan +23.5 @ Georgia. Dan Lefevour > Matt Stafford. Remember Georgia barely snuck by a similar team in Troy last year 44-34. That’s a big number to cover on the ground. 38 - 24 Dawgs.

Lapham
Don’t face rape me, bro.

Wyoming -3 vs. AF 2 units. Pure value bet here. Wyoming is getting shellacked with linesmakers because of its poor showing in a win vs. Ohio. Problem for AF, is they’ll have the Cowboys full attention and it helps that their defense is built to stop the Falcon’s rushing attack. Had Wyoming lost last week, I wouldn’t be playing this. They should roll after having been Dave Lapham faced raped in practice all week. 31 to 17 Cowboys.

Should be a winning week. I’m as confident as a democratic super-delegate in UTAH.

I hate to say it, but I like Notre Dame -21.5 against San Diego State. The Aztecs gave up 480 yards total offense in a loss to D-1AA (oh excuse me I mean, Football Championship Subdidivision)Cal Poly.

    Nice lineup.

Duke beat NW in Evanston last year and returns plenty of starters under a much better coach in Cutcliffe. It’s hard to pick the better of two shitty teams this early in the season. NW struggled against a horrible Syracuse team last week. Sorry Greg, your team blows. Some are saying NW has this game circled and I’d say it’s with a mechanical pencil. Brain Bowl Part II. Cats are the better team but I think Duke covers.

I’d confidently add the following games:

    Texas -25.5
    OU -21
    Cocks -9.5″

Lotta chalk Vasher. But it’s early in the year and that bodes well for faves.

Ok, I like all of the bets you mentioned, although Wyoming makes me a tad nervous. As far as lines go, I additionally like, or am considering:

    Uconn -7 vs Temple

Wake Forest -8 vs. Ole Miss
(Snead will win some games, but I think Wake is good enough to win by 10)

    WVU -8 vs. East Carolina
(Great win for ECU, but Noel Devine is good for 10)

    Aggy vs. New Mexico
(I think this line is a kneejerk. I think aggy can win by at least a TD after being Laphamed)

    Cal -13.5 over Wazzou
(Cal > Okie Lite. Wazzou is terrible)

South Florida -14 vs. Central Florida
    (Gone is CF’s star RB)

    Tech -11 vs Nevada Reno
(Listen, Tech always flops one early, but do we really think they can’t win this game be 2 TDs?)

    ASU -14 vs. Stanford
(Listen, I’m all aboard the Harbough bandwagon…but after a porous week 1, ASU should put up a lot of points…right?)

Also, I’d like to say I will be betting on whatever the Over is in the Tech game.

    Thoughts?

Lotta chalk indeed and chalk typically wins early. Home dogs will eventually gain strength as the season progresses. I do like the Miami + 21 cover

    Satan,

I also like Wake -8 and WVU -8. Not touching Tech or ASU, not enough trends yet for me.

    Tech -11 vs Nevada Reno
(Listen, Tech always flops one early, but do we really think they can’t win this game be 2 TDs?)

I do. I think Nevada is better (especially offensively)than most think, and they have the opportunity to run the ball and play keep away. That and playing at home makes me think they have a great shot at covering.

I am torn about the PSU/Oregon State game. The line I saw (in my office pool) was PSU -16.5. The PSU teams I remember would have trouble scoring 17 points.

    Thoughts?

Penn State will be without two starting defensive linemen.

Hmmm. I was thinking more of offensive capability. OSU’s is not an offensive power nd I would expect PSU’s defense to be effective without the linemen. I just don’t know about the offense.

Thoughts about WVU v. ECU? WVU will certainly not be looking past ECU and ECU now has some perception burden. ECU is +8 at home. I like WVU to cover.

I just got a 24 on the Miami, FL game. I took another helping, but for our purposes here, I’m not counting it.

GA Tech up 3 with 5 minutes to go. I’m feeling pretty good, but BC is driving.

Let me go on record, if I get beat in overtime, I’m burning HenryJames’ Erasure box set.
