Talked to my AAU Coach Friend
First, the guy hates Texas. Cannot stand us. So take this with a grain off (sic) salt.
Says J’Covan Brown has been an abortion from the start. Good player that could literally be bipolar. As in he’s just as likely to pants an opposing team member at the foul line on national TV as he is to hit a nice little 10 ft. pull up on the break. Dude mailed in his LOI on signing day for Pete’s weiner. Not a bad miss.
Says the Houston B-ball community is somewhat pissed that Mason-Griffin was not recruited hard by Texas. Said it was an insult that Texas sent Rodney Terry to the various tournaments when most programs had their head guy. After I informed him that we had bigger fish to fry, he agreed to disagree. Then I told him to go fuck himself.
He said Shawn Williams will be a solid 3 to 4 year contributor. Loved his long frame and ability to stroke it on the perimeter, but what really sets him apart is his willingness to get out and guard people. He needs to get stronger, but his attitude on the court should carryover into the weight room.
He claimed Pastner is licking his chops to coach for Calipari. Going from Olson to Cal would really help with the X’s and O’s aspect of the resume as well as his narcolepsy.
Then we argued about the Georgian conflict. His main rebuttal involved bitches being kicked.

“Going from Olson to Cal would really help with the X’s and O’s aspect of the resume…”
Never been a strength of Cal’s that I could see. At least, not compared to actually doing whatever it took to get raw talent on campus.
It’s not often you cause an opposing coach to threaten to kill you… in public, anyway.

Trips:
Why is the Texas program so uniformly despised on the AAU coach circuit? Because we don’t play the game or is there something deeper?

Now Pastner doesn’t have to pretend the program he works for isn’t filthy. He can embrace his true inner recruiter.
I just have to believe TMG was a good miss.
I don’t know what to believe re Brown. Is that chapter even closed, or does the drama get dragged out until Spring?

I think Barnes has seen the limitations of short point guards. TMG would be shortest of the bunch, all though he is much thicker than TJ or DJ. To top it off, ou could guarantee him a starting spot from day one.

kev, I think immediate PT would have been a big factor in the TMG situation. He would have to win it at Texas and I wouldn’t like his chances.
When it comes to recruiting, I just hope that everybody picks the right school for them. It ain’t my life.

Immediate PT is a factor at OU only if Willie Warren is one and done.

Warren isn’t a point guard, either, so I fully expect a Daniel Gibson situation there.

By “not recruited hard by Texas” I assume you mean “not offered enough money.”

Scipio, Texas by and large doesn’t “play ball” with handlers. It’s funny hearing a guy talk about what he’s entitled to for “helping” a recruit through the process.
