Big 12 To Nebraska, Missouri: Put Up or Shut Up

In the latest move in this high stakes game of Texas Hold 'Em, the Big 12 has gone all in.

The Statesman is reporting that Nebraska and Missouri have until this Friday, June 11, to let the Big 12 know if they are leaving (presumably to go to the Big 10), or........or the league will implode with as many as 6 teams heading to the Pac 10.

It's a calculated risk for both sides. The Big 10 has long indicated that any move they make towards expansion won't happen before the end of the year, at the earliest. The Big 12 could probably survive a Missouri loss, but not Nebraska, and Texas still has a large stake in seeing this league survive.

There is no real public indication as to who is holding the best hole card in this hand.

Are Nebraska and Missouri willing to bet that invitations will be forthcoming? For that matter there is still no consensus that the Pac 10 is ready to vote in six new members.
