I mused that the Longhorns may be looking for a splash hire to replace Bubba Thornton, but instead they chose to hire from within, tabbing Mario Sategna to head up the new combined Men & Women's Track Programs at Texas. That this decision was already in the books, and that there was no real external search, was evidenced by the public job posting, where UT posted the job requirements more or less based on Sategna's resume.
Santegna, a 1996 LSU grad, is a bright, young, up-and-comer who is extremely popular with Texas track athletes and should be able to inject some vitality into a good Texas track program that some feel has not maximized of late and had become complacent under previous regimes.
Best of luck to Mario. Hook 'em.
