Aledo WR Ryan Newsome Narrows His Final Three: Texas, UCLA, Tennessee

Spruce Derden-USA TODAY Sports

The diminutive speedster (5-8, 165) and consensus four star recruit from Aledo announced his final three and, as expected, the Longhorns made the cut.  The Longhorns are still thought to be a favorite for Newsome, but UCLA may be a legitimate challenger for his signature with Tennessee third in the mix.

Newsome was a dominant high school receiver, all-purpose runner and kick returner and projects to the slot in college, but his skill set as a punt returner may be where he shines most.  Newsome is a good track athlete and should log times in the 10.5 100 meter range as a senior, but he's not just a straight line runner.  He's plenty agile and can break a defender's ankles in the open field.

If you're looking for an upside comparator, think Marquis Goodwin.  The floor is probably DeSean Hales.  The bottom line is that raw speed that's also dexterous is a take 100% of the time.
