Texas Longhorns Football Recruiting: Deshon Elliott Commitment & Scouting Report

Ronald Martinez

Charlie Strong and the Longhorns picked up a three star 2015 commitment from Rockwall's DeShon Elliott.  Elliott had offers from A&M, OU, Baylor and Arkansas (among others).

Elliott is a hybrid S/LB type who is (generously) listed at 6-2, 205.

Although he might be labeled with a dreaded "tweener" tag, I see an eventual WLB or hybrid nickel safety who can cover ground, take on blocks with physicality, is comfortable in space and will eventually bring the wood.  He has a big frame and I don't think carrying additional weight will be a problem.  His HUDL film does a better job of demonstrating his ball skills.  He had some instincts out there.

Elliott doesn't have crazy first step quickness like an Edwin Freeman and you can even see some hesitation at times, but it's still early in his developmental curve and it's clear that he impressed Strong and the defensive staff in Austin.

The Longhorns now have 8 commitments (Rivals ranked: two 4 stars, six 3 stars).
