Texas just received a verbal commitment from LB Anthony Wheeler (Dallas Skyline) during halftime of the 2015 Under Armour High School All-Star game. Wheeler was long thought to have been favoring the Sooners, but a late push by Strong and company put Texas over the top for his commitment.
Wheeler is a 4 star ILB who will likely duke it out with fellow commitment Cecil Cherry for snaps at MLB during his Longhorn career. He excels in pursuit and has a pretty good instinctive feel for the position. Similar to Cherry, Wheeler is not an elite athlete - don't let the Skyline pedigree fool you - and his best realization as a college player will come as an inside banger with dedication in the weight room.
Adding Wheeler's commitment to a Longhorn LB class that already had #1 national LB Malik Jefferson, spread buster Cameron Townsend, Florida hitman Cecil Cherry and bloodline-rich Breckyn Hager gives the Horns one of the best LBing classes in the country and solidifies a shaky depth chart.
More broadly, his commitment continues some serious late recruiting momentum for a Longhorn program that seems very likely to finish with a Top 10 class. Top 5 still isn't completely out of the question, but the margin for error is slim.
