Happy Halloween! Shaka Smart and the Texas Longhorns landed their fourth recruit in the 2018 class. Kamaka Hepa, a 4* forward from Portland, Oregon — by way of
Beyond the Wall Hoth Snowpiercer Barrow, Alaska — committed to Texas.
Seriously. Read Hepa’s backstory and tell me he doesn’t autorank as your favorite recruit in the class.
Hepa just squeaks in as a top 50 recruit (he’s currently five-oh on the 247 Composite rankings), adding to a solid foundational class that contains fellow top 50 member and wing scorer Gerald Liddell and forwards Brock Cunningham and Jaxson Hayes.
Hepa’s core skill is his stretch big shot; he hit over 40% from distance on this past summer’s Nike EYBL circuit. Beyond that, his highlight reels showcase potential as a modern day big man, with some ability to handle and pass on O, while bodying up and defending the rim on D.
During his time at Texas, Hepa aligns with Smart’s strategy to field a deep roster and surround a rim-running paint protector and an aces lead guard with three versatile athletes that can run, shoot, and hopefully — praise be — SHART.
Welcome to the Forty, Kamaka. Hook ‘em.
