Some quick thoughts from Tom on the first day of real football.
- Pleased with practice. A lot of juice from the players and good effort all around
- The defensive players have much better pad levels and knee bend than in the spring. Direct consequence of better lower body strength and improved mobility. Props to Yancy McKnight
- Hemphill-Mapps was held out with a migraine. Will be held out tomorrow as a precaution and should practice Monday
- RB is a platoon job. Kyle Porter is getting snaps with the 1s because he has been healthy
- Toneil Carter is the most fluid pass catcher of the RB group
- Freshmen TEs Leitao and Brewer need to get stronger, but certainly weren’t intimidated doing inside drill
- Saturday scrimmage: 1s vs 1s, 2s vs 2s, probably 60 plays
- Zach Shack at C, Elijah Rodriguez at RT represents our current best 5
- After the starting 5, Denzel, Tristan and Pat Hudson are the next best 3
- Displeased with busts on defense and assignment errors on offense. The key is that players just need to go hard - they can clean up the mental part
- Today was goal line and red zone install. Football in a phone booth
- B-backer competition: McCulloch has to get better against the run, Hughes needs to get better at pass rushing. Sounds familiar :)
