Thanks to the Oklahoma State Cowboys upset of West Virginia and after a dominating win over Iowa State in Austin, the Texas Longhorns are a win in Lawrence, Kansas away from playing in the Big 12 title game in Dallas.
Sam Ehlinger played a great half of football before injuring his shoulder, Shane Buechele was a reliable steady hand in relief steering the Longhorn offense home to victory, Tre Watson and Keaontay Ingram sparkled as runners and pass catchers, LJH went into full beast mode breaking at least a half dozen tackles and Collin Johnson turned in a very solid night of work.
But the star of the evening was the Texas Longhorn defense. After being victimized three weeks in a row, they shelved the dime defense and featured an almost exclusive 4-2-5 nickel look that shut down the Cyclone running game and brought a withering pass rush that made ISU freshman Brock Purdy insecure in the pocket and eventually knocked him from the game. The Texas secondary also did a great job of tackling and prevented ISU WR Hakeem Butler from making any big plays.
A dominant home win on senior night. Now it’s time to heal up and grab a spot in the Big 12 title game.
