2019 Texas Football Recruiting: Longhorns land Florida LB Marcus Tillman

The Longhorn Stars At Night camp event is already proving fruitful. Orlando Jones (the HS, not the actor) LB Marcus Tillman Jr committed to the Longhorns, giving them their second out of state linebacker commitment in a down year in-state at the position.

Tillman has HUDL film taken from a wino’s flip phone, but it shows an active hybrid safety/rover athlete (growing into LB) who is comfortable in coverage and blitzing. I want to see more of him as a senior before offering my rubber stamp, but clearly he showed well enough in person for our staff to earn the offer.

Tillman is quicker than fast (as seen on film and a 4.85 40, 4.33 short shuttle, 35 inch vertical testing at a combine) but he moves pretty well in pads and the former Gator commitment gives the Horns their 14th commitment in an 11th ranked national class.

Expect a full class of 25 in 2019 and a number of interesting recruitments coming down to the wire, in large part based on 2018 season results. That will determine whether Texas closes with a Top 15 or Top 8 class.
