Texas Football: True freshman Caden Sterns will start at safety against Maryland

While a redshirt freshman Earl Thomas got a starting nod back in 2008, Caden Sterns is the first opening day true freshman starting at safety that I can recall at Texas (never mind, Blake Gideon).

The freshman from Cibolo Steele was an early enrollee and blew coaches away with his ability to play fast and learn the system in Spring and early summer practices. They plugged him in on the 1st team and no one has been able to unseat him. He’ll start opposite Brandon Jones while PJ Locke is moved back to nickel back.
