Making it onto a NFL roster is incredibly difficult. Making a NFL roster as a undrafted free agent is damn near impossible. Chris Warren, Poona Ford and Holton Hill all just did it (joining draftees Deshon Elliott, Malik Jefferson, Connor Williams and Michael Dickson).

  • Warren led the NFL in rushing for the Raiders in preseason. The big back clearly responded well to a NFL running scheme. He’s being stashed on IR right now with a knee injury.
  • Poona Ford dominated the preseason for Seattle and earned a spot on the regular roster. That’s worth 480K on his rookie contract.
  • Holton Hill made one of the top three defensive rosters in the NFL. Talent has never been Hill’s issue. If he stays clean, the Vikings got a 2nd round talent for free, well, 75K in incentives to lure Hill to Minny. Looks like their 75K investment in Hill paid off. An amazing story for an athlete who failed the drug test at the NFL combine. I hope he works it out.

Seven Longhorns made NFL teams in all.
