Texas received a commitment from Lufkin safety Jerrin Thompson, a four star safety from Lufkin. Thompson is a 6-0, 183 pound athlete who clocked a 4.6 40 and 4.2 short shuttle at Rivals camp, but he’s more of a shoulder pads on the field guy than a workout warrior. Thompson is a great tackler and a big hitter, which aren’t always a combo package. The mean streak and his ability to close distance rapidly are on ample display in his film.
Thompson is fluid and physical with natural ball instincts and that suggests either field safety or nickel are in his future.
A really nice addition to the 2020 class which now has 14 members and is ranked 9th in the country. Of the Top 25 ranked 2020 teams, Texas has the fewest commitments. A top 10 finish is pretty much assured. A top 5 finish will depend on how the 2019 season plays out.
