The raw four star cornerback from Aldine makes the fifth DB commitment for the 2020 recruiting class and the 18th recruit overall. The Longhorns remain holding at #6 in the nation overall, just behind Georgia and a good distance from 7th ranked Auburn.
Eaton has the long frame and wingspan (seriously, guy can tie his shoes while standing) that coaches covet at cornerback and he demonstrates good quickness and comfort in space. His power, physicality and explosiveness will get better as he fills out his skinny 6-2, 175 pound body, but you can’t teach the ball skills and length he demonstrates from the cornerback and wide receiver positions. Those wide receiver highlights are particularly exciting and he exhibits legit FBS level receiving skills. Those are natural ball tracking instincts and coordination that translate very well to defense. It’s a layer of playmaking potential at cornerback that marries well to his body type. Eaton isn’t a blazer, but you can recover distance with length as easily as with foot speed.
His film is good, but this is an athlete that you put into the developmental incubator and see what two or three years of S&C yield. If that’s a near 200 pound corner who can flip his hips, make plays on the ball with a condor’s wingspan, and shut down the boundary, you’ve got a steal.
This staff has particularly excelled at identifying the skinny quick types with big frames that they grow bigger while retaining and increasing athletic traits. Eaton is the next in line.
