Texas Longhorns Junior Day 2 Preview

Who's coming?

Stacy Revere

For the Texas Longhorns, JD2 has traditionally been an afterthought as compared to JD1, but it all changes this year. Briefly, here's a rundown of guys either confirmed or likely to attend.

Cajun Mafia Wars

Leonard Fournette (RB, New Orleans St. Augustine)

Joseph Paul (OL, New Orleans St. Augustine)

Jermaine Roberts (DB, New Orleans St. Augustine)

Speedy Noil (WR, New Orleans Edna Karr)

Gerald Willis (DE, New Orleans Edna Karr)

The biggest news of the weekend is Mack Brown extending his hand into the Louisiana cookie jar. The list of five Crescent City prospects are all "maybes" at this point, but getting any or all of them onto campus this early would be a huge success. All Louisianans start as LSU leans, but the flipping has to begin somewhere.

The Bell Cow

Lorenzo Joe (WR, Abilene Cooper)

Joe, a committed Texas prospect, looks like he's taking the lead on the "bell cow" role. He's expected to be back in town to schmooze the other recruits. QB Jerrod Heard might come as well.

See Ball, Catch Ball

KD Cannon (WR, Mt. Pleasant)

Armanti Foreman (WR, Texas City, committed to OU)

Derrick Neal (WR, Dallas Lincoln)

Emmanuel Porter (WR, Emmanuel Porter, committed to TCU)

With Joe and fellow WR Rodrick Bernard already committed, the Longhorns can afford to slowplay a third WR commit. KD Cannon, the consensus top prospect in the state, has been touring area schools. Darrell Wyatt and Major Applewhite are rumored to be infatuated with Cannon's skills, but he sounds like a long shot right now with the recruitniks. The Longhorns are also exploring other options. Foreman and Neal are the better half of twins at their respective programs, and Porter is an intriguing player who TCU snatched up before he started garnering major interest.

Defend Ball

Nick Watkins (DB, Dallas Bishop Dunne)

Edwin Freeman (DB, Arlington Bowie)

Darrion Johnson (DB, Brenham)

Dylan Sumner-Gardner (DB, West Mesquite)

Nick Foster (DB, Keller Foster Ridge, committed to TCU)

Jyaz Jones (DB, Dallas South Oak Cliff)

The first three already possess a Texas offer, with Darrion Johnson receiving his as a JD1 attendee. The fact that Johnson is returning for JD2 has to be a good sign, no? Sumner-Gardner is a virtual lock to receive an offer if he makes it to campus, as he's amongst the cream of the crop on Duane Akina's big board. A couple intriguing names are Foster and Jones, lesser known prospects at this point. Unlike WR, the DB board at Texas is wide open right now, with multiple offers outstanding and no recruits prohibitively favoring Texas at this time.

Get 'Em On Campus

Terrell Cuney (C, Jasper)

DeShawn Robinson Washington (DT, Nederland)

Both Cuney and Robinson have Texas offers. The Longhorns may lead for both prospects, and a possible commitment on JD2 or a few days after from either isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Other Possible Offers

Jovan Pruitt (OL, Dallas Bishop Lynch)

Cedric Johnson (DT, Rowlett)

Otaro Alaka (LB, Cypress Falls)

Cody Ennis (QB, San Antonio Madison)

The four names above have been linked with Texas for a while, and are amongst the prospects most likely to receive an offer (if one wasn't extended already). Offensive tackle isn't a need position, and Pruitt is a high ceiling guy that might also help with Watkins' recruitment. DT and LB are more pressing concerns, with Johnson and Alaka both high on Texas' big board. Texas is also rumored to be wanting to take a second quarterback, which is where Ennis may come in. There are other prospects visiting, but the ones above are the names to know right now.
