Mack Brown is well endowed

Posted by HenryJames on May 7th, 2008 under Football

Mack Brown is getting a chair endowed in his name. The University of Texas is going to endow the Mack Brown Distinguished Chair for Leadership in Global Affairs to be part of the university’s Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law.

Global Affairs? Dude doesn’t even recruit out of state. Why not the Mack Brown Distinguished Chair for Leadership in Border Security?

But seriously, it’s an honor. The athletics department has already kicked in $500,000 toward the $2 million goal.

Joe Paterno will be the keynote speaker at a fundraising event in Austin on May 16. Paterno will speak at 4pm and then an early bird special will be served at 4:30.

If there’s one name that is synonymous with international security and law, it’s Coach Mack Brown.

Some overdue PR work on the school’s part.

JoPa-a serious, serious reader (if you can believe it with those glasses)-has long been an active fundraiser for the library system at PSU. Mac has not been involved with the campus much. Opinions will differ, of course, as to whether that’s part of his job. But when you’ve got a nice situation like his, stopping by the annual bake-sale in front of the PCL would be counted a gesture of good will.

Not kidding about the bake-sale, by the way.

You better believe Fran would have had his ass at a bake sale.

Mack made an appearance last week at the 20th annual MIS Business Fair in the Union. Of course his wife was leading him around and his level of excitement was about as if they were shopping for linens.

I wish Mack would chase down referees heading into the tunnel at halftime.

Phenom, I know you and I have had this discussion on numerous occasions. I think Simmons is a virtuouso at connecting aspects of pop culture and sports, at seeing analogies between the two that advance understanding. I also think that he is a very good basketball analyst. But he is a blow

Bill Simmons is dumb. I thought everyone knew that.*

*Actually, I realize I’m one of the few sports fans who can’t stand Simmons. He’s a blowhard. He’s arrogant for no reason. He’s Jim Rome in writing.

Phenom: He definitely got his shots in. But as TTR suggested above, I’m sure he’s been advised to continuing fulfilling his responsibilities until directed otherwise, leaving that burden on the University.

Triston: Where is the $6 million coming from?

Bill Simmons has “expanded” his thoughts at the below link. I don’t even know where to start. I’ve always thought that he had a tenuous grasp, at best, on logic and statistics, but this is over the top bad. It should be mortifying for him, but I doubt he has any idea

Hey, judging from KU’s recent teams…Mangino has always thought the best defense is a good offense.

I’m here all week, folks. Don’t forget to tip your servers.

Outstanding piece and one that I think any man who competed in team sports above the junior high level can identify with. Context is certainly everything. Many of Bob Knight’s actions from the glory days at IU would leave him fired and blackballed from most positions in modern day athletics. However, a

I should add that I missed the beginning and end of his show — I read in the Star this morning that he went on a tirade against former players and parents. I didn’t hear that.

I happened to catch Mangino’s radio show last night. Didn’t sound like he was going anywhere, but you know how these shows are. Someone wrote in with a question about starting Pick and other kids to prepare for next year since this year is lost. He was miffed, but kept his cool.

I really know nothing about Sumlin other than he seems like he’s a good coach. Obviously living in H-Town you know more about him than I do. Just curious why you don’t care for him.

If you don’t live in Houston, Lopez is a columnist for the Houston Comical, and evidently has pictures of multiple sports radio programming directors giving barnyard animals smooth buttfuckings because he has

I don’t think they can officially fire him yet if they’re attempting to prove cause (I believe ’cause’ would save the University over $6 million). KU has to provide written notice to Mangino specifying the grounds for termination and provide him at least 21 days to respond to any allegations.

    That’s not to say this

I would love to see some classic Vince with a last second or complete blowout win against the Texans. My hatred of the Texans has never wavered since they decided not to draft him. The stupidity of not drafting Vince is the equivalent of the Rockets drafting Sam Bowie instead of Hakeem.
