USC Reloads, Right? Wrong.

Fight on.

Not this year, at least. What I find surprising about USC this season is the sunshine-laden outlook they’ve received from almost any interested party when they’re discussed. ESPN & AP polls say #4. Folks on this site and others think top 5, you can see it in the forums. CFN, the CFB version of the theater of the absurd, ranks them at 2, well ahead of UT at 4. This isn’t a case of

Oklahoma Sooners caught cheating, will be handed death penalty

Posted by ChrisApplewhite on August 28th, 2009 under Football

Whaaaaaaaatttttt?!?!?!?!?!?!?

OU Reports Secondary Violations: The documents indicate head football coach Bob Stoops and assistant football coach Jackie Shipp and assistant women's basketball coach Stacy Hansmeyer made impermissible calls to one prospect each, while head women's basketball coach Sherri Coale inadvertently sent a prospect a text message. From the WWL Since this is the 2nd infraction since being place on probation, one can only assume that the NCAA will bring down the swift hammer of justice on

2009 Texas A&M Football Preview: State of The Union

Posted by Scipio Tex on August 27th, 2009 under Football

Forward, March, Hut, Two, Three, Four!

Aggie football players are a lot like the Aggie Corps of Cadets. Some of them are the real thing and deserve your respect, but most play dress up for four years pretending to be something they’re not and end up selling insurance in Tomball. Witness the perfect illustration of my point. West Point. While A&M's football team struggled to a 21-17 victory against an Army team that lost by 18

NCAA Investigating Tennessee Freshman Bryce Brown

Posted by Trips Right on August 19th, 2009 under Football

Not surprising when you consider all of the clowns that took part in this circus. Lane Kiffin, Brown himself, and most interesting to me, a handler named Brian Butler. The following excerpt, if true, is bad news for players that are now playing the street agent game. It could also be bad news for our pal Will Lyles and other sleaze bags. Sources told ESPN.com that the crux of the NCAA’s

J’Covan Brown. Where He Fits In

Posted by Trips Right on August 18th, 2009 under Basketball

We've discussed at length what to expect from the 2009-2010 Longhorn Basketball team. We've projected personnel combinations and schemes. We've hit on minute distributions. And we've made some great friends along the way... Many of the threads felt like the following. Awe. The memories. What we haven't done is discuss the ever increasing possibility that J'Covan Brown, the talented guard from bitch kicking Port Arthur, will join this talent laden squad at

Fast Times At Katy Morton Ranch High

Posted by Scipio Tex on August 13th, 2009 under Football

I thought we just flew him in for games! A sordid tale of transcript falsification, player suspension, illegal district transfers, coach's wives doing the horizontal limbo with teens, and bent athletic trainers in Katy detailed at Spence Park Soap Box. You should absolutely give it a read if you want a more sophisticated understanding of the game currently being run out there. Katy Morton Ranch

The Little Class That Could

Posted by Scipio Tex on August 10th, 2009 under Football

The 2002 class may be our gold standard, but 2005 was platinum. We didn't need much to extract real value. A h/t to Rivals/Orangebloods for this list of 15 signees from 2005. This tiny class of 15 came in ranked #20 in the country and caused much consternation amongst our fan base. Particularly when you consider the historical context of that time and a succession of five straight OU

Aaron Franklin, UT/OU Recruiting, & Chris Young

Posted by CloseToJumping on August 7th, 2009 under Football

Aaron Franklin is a Linebacker prospect out of East Texas. If you don't know this and you follow Texas football, you are probably dumber than Vasherized and MinnesotaHorn combined, which takes lobotomies, sloth, and the genetics of a HenryJames/Jackie Shipp lovechild. Franklin committed to OU today in a Texas/OU battle. This one hurts, and the reasons why are myriad, and sadly, simple. For starters, OU was on this guy during his sophomore year. Texas didn't know who he was. Second, Franklin

Sean Weatherspoon Tackles Twitter

Posted by Scipio Tex on July 26th, 2009 under Football

Missouri's Sean Weatherspoon - All-American LB from Jasper, TX is The Most Interesting Man in Columbia Que? No, C-o-l-u-m-b-i-a Texas never recruited Weatherspoon, mostly because we consider deep rural East Texas to be out-of-state and the idea that there is a honor student football player from Jasper was Loch Nessian in its believability. Besides, if a player really wants to come to Texas he should camp out on

Why Not Deal With Street Agents? Why Does the SEC?

Posted by Scipio Tex on July 23rd, 2009 under Basketball

Bagmen If street agents are becoming an increasingly dominant fixture in college football (and they are) why doesn't Texas participate in the game? After we started writing about it, this question was posed to me by more than a few of my friends who pointed out what we all know: our alums are outrageously wealthy, obsessed with football, love to meddle, and easily capable of placing every street agent

I’m with you that I think USC is vastly overrated this year, and I think they’ll lose two games, and I could defintely see three losses. I disagree though that the Buckeyes will be one of those losses. My reason? USC has a freshman QB. I know that sounds like a strange reason to be

    agreed.

i see losses to Cal, OSU and tOSU, to START.

  • ChrisApplewhite commented on the blog post USC Reloads, Right? Wrong. 5 hours, 50 minutes ago

I’m with you. Lost a ton off the defense, a true freshman QB in an unexciting scheme, and they have to travel to tOSU.

They still play in the Pac-10 and will still probably win it, but this’ll be the weakest USC team since 2001 or 02.

Stoops’ shenanigans with the media involve one-word answers, complex sentences that deliver little substance and the release of the depth chart.

He hates the depth chart. Sitting a rocking chair, in the middle of his house, in front of the fire, Stoops cradles and pets his depth chart while finding multiple ways to bastardize its

This Kevin Durant guy could be pretty big for us….

  • uthookem commented on the blog post Texas Hoops Open Gym Number 2 10 hours, 2 minutes ago

Agree on Durant. I don’t know shit about basketball, but watching that for three minutes and it’s easy to tell he is far superior to anyone else on the court.

Also, who is the guy with the longer hair that nails the three at the end?

And yeah, Pittman looks slim. And if he looks

if what can best be described as a patchwork offensive line can pass block in tandem (thus keeping Reesing out of the hospital), they win the North. Period. If that doesn’t happen, then look to last year’s Nebraska game for an illustration of how mediocre a great QB becomes without any time to

I have nothing to add really other than agreeing will all on Durant. Watching him play is just a pure pleasure. Seeing his game improve year to year the way it does is legendary. Considering how tall and lanky the kid is I’m absolutely blown away with his handles. Love him. Meanwhile, I can barely

    From a Sooner website.

    Sooner Sports Depth Chart

Chris Brown starts over Demarco Murray and his hamstring.

Brody Eldridge gets the start at center ahead of Ben Habern and his lower lumbar. No word if Brody is the frontrunner for the Bob Stoops “Whistling past the graveyard award”.

Brian Simmons starts at LG ahead of Stephen Good and his rotator cuff.
