According to the Statesman, Damion James spent the month of June practicing with former Longhorn Kevin Durant. It paid off.
“You’ll be surprised at how much I’ve improved on the perimeter,” said James. “My ballhandling. I’ve extended my shooting range.”
Don’t hold back, Damion.
“Kevin coming back is by far the best thing that ever happened to me at UT,” James said.
Good news.

Foreshadowing?
A.J. Abrams said Dogus Balbay is the fastest Longhorn with the ball, and Varez Ward is the fastest without it. Ward is going to be a great defender.

Never understate the importance of a working downstairs toilet on opening day of college football season. Never. You can go without HD, drink off-brand beer, admire Dave Lapham’s enthusiasm for football players playing the game of football, skip the 11:00 Big Ten games on ESPN because you figure nothing interesting will happen, overcook the steaks,

DId you see the college football preview in which they basically said Urban Meyer invented the spread while at Utah and everyone else is copying him? Also that Tebow is almost sure to be a top 10 pick? And the spread didn’t really exist before the Rams.
No mention of the run-n-shoot, Mouse Davis, or any

The kid is actually walking after being touched by Tebow. He knelt before him, cried and washed Tebow’s cleats with his hair..

I wonder, should BYU lose to Florida State, if they’ll follow it up with: “BYU Blows Wad Against Sooners; Goes Limp Against FSU.”

Damn, I wish somebody would snap Kenny Chesney’s AC shoulder joint (the one that allows him to pretend to play the guitar), and then step on his larynx with metal-cleated climbing shoes for good measure.

As any Big Love watcher or salt lake resident knows Mormons say “Oh my heck” a lot.
Having lived a Kevin Baconesque senior year in Salt Lake corrupting girls in their experimental pre-marriage-at 19 stage I kow this to be true.

And there damn well better be another one waiting for them in Dallas on 10/17.
I was in Dallas (Frisco) on Saturday for a wedding, and afterwards (and three or so hours of open bar and a ‘tender that must’ve been paid by the number of bottles he emptied) we walked back to the hotel and

CTJ I bow to your prescience–I saw the Wake game as a loss for Baylor on the way to a 6-6 season.
I’ll hold off on praising the Alabama defense: they’re obviously nails, but I don’t think Beamer had a particularly strong offense or game plan for this one.

Idaho State
Tulsa
at Miami
BaylorOU is very lucky that Idaho State is next. Tulsa looked good in their opener as did Baylor. Depending on how the team reacts to these injuries, there could be 2 more losses in that sched before OU gets to Dallas.

While Willingham was otherwise digging a deep, deep, deep hole into which he threw the UW Huskies program, he did manage to recruit some good offensive talent. UW’s problem this year will be its defense, and I was stunned that LSU didn’t take advantage of it. I thought UW might score 23 or 24 points,

Here’s our post from last week.
1. Oklahoma State – Beat Georgia 24-10. I like Bowen and I think we’re gonna like Bill Miller, but this has to make you miss Bill Young. With that said, and Gundy at the comman, I’m still not convinced. (Last week: 3)
2. Missouri – Beat Illinois 37-9.

and the best LT OU has ever had happily whiffed on him. Why exactly did he get so much hype? Did he play well against Florida or something. He was completely absent against us last yeear against Melton.

I thought Oklahoma State looked rather weak on offense. Dez Bryant is this years Crabtree and Kendall Hunter is pretty good but they have no one else that is a threat. I think without Pettigrew they’ve regressed from last year’s offense. Robinson might scramble for a first down but he isn’t going to take it

CU is exactly the same team it was last year. The announcers kept insisting that Scott had to get more carries, but it’s pretty clear that Stewart is a much better option. Still, as long as Cody is running the point, the offense will never be a threat.

Atchley on the perimeter guarded by a big while Damion posts up a skinny wing inside will be a matchup nightmare.

If Damion is a full time 3, then who sits from our three guards? How Barnes answers this question will have a lot to do with how our season goes.

I’d like to see Damion attack bigger forwards from the triple threat position. He doesn’t need to cross fools over to get to the rim, he’d be most effective as a shot fake, one dribble, explode to the goal forward.
Trips Right said:

Scip, Dogus or Mason will need to stroke it or teams are going to zone the shit out of us due to the matchup problems you typed about.
Or f’ it, let’s just press the shit out of teams with our depth and run them out of the zone.

I feel bad for Sonics fans, but it sure is nice having KD just a couple of hundred miles up the highway instead of two time zones away.
Though I hope he has a good glazier on his payroll to make up for all the bricks the Okies will be throwing through his windows.

Barnes sounded pretty high on Dexter and indicated that Texas is going to be tough on the inside. That means the front line starters are probably Dex, Connor, and Damion, right? The back court starters are Mason and Abrams.
I’m guessing that when Dex is in the game, he is probably posting up (i.e. he probably won’t be outside too much). Damion, Abrams, and Connor should be shooting fine from the outside so the main question about outside shooting is how well Mason and Balbay shoot.
Are Texas basketball practises closed?

I’m as excited about the start of Texas Basketball as I have been in a long time - men’s and women’s. The men will go as far as their point guard play allows. Really looking forward to seeing what kind of player Balbay is. Or will we be pleasantly surprised by AJ’s point play? Mason is functional there but not the drought killer DJ was.
