  1. Priates? where did that shit come from? TT is walking the plank tonite.

  2. Watching all the “analysts” picking against us it’s pretty obvious they’ve only seen the TT-Kansas game and have forgotten that we sort of have an offense too.

Gideon cost us the game. It was literally in his hands.

I’m sure this has been pointed out but how much freaking time did we give them due to repeatedly snapping the ball with 15 goddamn seconds on the play clock? Ridiculous

Actually, there were 20+ seconds on the play clock.

bush league coaching. I can handle being outschemed, but that shitty clock management is inexcusable. Shit fuck damn cock

  11. go clock go…. oh, wait. Is the game over? What the fuck?

This loss is on the coaches. Greg Davis is an idiot

  13. Coaching staff should be euthanized. Let’s give Tech 1:30 to play with…run the fucking clock out - either win the game or not. But don’t give those fucks a chance to drive the field. My god.

  14. Greg Davis?

    Are you serious?

Was he the guy who couldn’t block anybody?

Did he DROP THE GAME WINING INT?

easy to blame gd, he seems to be the scapegoat every time we lose.

Maybe we should blame the line coach. 5 guys can’t block 3 guys?

  15. SOMEONE on the sidelines should have gotten their heads out of their asses. That clock mgmt was abysmal.

You know, I can’t blame Gideon. He was there. He’s a true freshman. Cut him some slack.

You could also make the case that Brown should have turned his head, and he probably could have intercepted or batted down that last pass.

Young secondary. We knew we’d get burned on some big plays. None bigger than that one, though.

30 seconds on the play clock with first down at the 20, 20 seconds on the play clock on the scoring play, McCoy runs out of bounds to get the first down at the six.

Don’t have to run it all down, but that could have won them the game.

  18. Stuck in MN said:

    November 1st, 2008 at 7:53 pm

Did he DROP THE GAME WINING INT?

No, but it shouldn’t have some down to that. See above posts, no excuses for giving Tech anything more than 30 seconds on that final drive.

  19. Greg Davis didn’t drop the football every crucial situation, throw bad passes, or interceptions. Colt had a bad night! He looked flat out scared in the first half. Most times he got hit were due to holding the football a little too long.

In the second half when we seemed to get moving Greg Davis didn’t look so bad then, did he? The truth is we choked, and it wasn’t coaching. Several players had a chance to make plays and they consistently dropped the ball….so to speak.

  20. Bobby Jack Akina said:

Actually, the clock management is even worse than you think. On the first play we ran inside the 20, we snapped it with about 28 seconds on the play clock. I think we snapped it another time with 21 on the play clock and another with about 18.

Tech should have taken possession with less than a minute on the clock and no timeouts.

    Inexcusable.

  21. Stuck in MN said:

    November 1st, 2008 at 7:55 pm

Bob- Colt running out of bounds did not matter. It happened with more than 2 minutes left so the clock ran again after the chains were set.

  22. Bobby Jack Akina said:

    November 1st, 2008 at 7:55 pm

Oops. Sorry, Bob in Houston already had it.

  23. You guys are fucking nuts. It should have never come down to Gideon dropping that pick. We should have scored, and won the game, with less than 30 seconds left. Unbelievable.

  24. I couldnt agree more…Greg Davis coached a good game. We just had too many costly errors and dropped passes in the 1st half. We should be 9-0, but give credit where Credit is due. Tech won the game, they made the plays, and they WON in the trenches. I can honestly say they were the better team this year. It wont be the same next year, bc UT will be SICK but lets give the Raiders their due. Congrats Tech…now just lose to Oklahoma and Okie Lite.

  25. i love this team, and feel sorry for blake. but blaming the coaches is such a cop out, especially when our o line had such a bad game, and blake dropped the game wining int, our receivers dropped tons of passe…etc.

blaming the coaches, who have this team overachieving already, is just taking the easy way out. unfortunately, that seems to be the norm here.

  26. Stuck in MN said:

    November 1st, 2008 at 8:03 pm

Let me ask you game theorists something- which would you rather have against Tech? 1) you have the ball, first and goal, 30 seconds left, down by 6 with 3 timeouts, or 2) up by 1 with 90 seconds left? I think the answer is pretty obvious, but perhaps I am missing something.

  27. yeah, i guess snapping the ball too early made our line not be able to block tech for the 3 previous quarters.

totally the coaches fault, let’s hire charlie weis.

  28. Texas is so fucked that I just can’t stand it.

  29. Stuck in MN said:

    November 1st, 2008 at 8:12 pm

billy- are you trying to be obtuse? Yes, the line played like ass, yes players missed on big plays, yes, Tech played well- but after all that, we still win if we do something so fucking simple that a junior high coach knows to do it.

  30. I guess it is only fair to blame both sides equally. Both the players and the coaches made inexcusable mistakes.

  31. Bobby Jack Akina said:

    November 1st, 2008 at 8:16 pm

Billy, saying we fucked up our clock management at the end of the game does not preclude criticism of the way the team played to that point. Nor is it “blaming the coaches” for the loss.

The fact that the team played poorly for two quarters does not change the fact that the coaching staff was shortsighted at a critical juncture and it cost the team.

  32. Stuck in MN said:

    November 1st, 2008 at 8:17 pm

Fair enough Geronimo, but if it comes down to blaming a 50 year old getting 500K or an 18 year old playing for books and tuition, I can tell you who I’m going to be more vocal about.

  33. The clock management was so bad I was screaming for Vondrell to take a knee at the one.

  34. coaching staff didn’t lose this one fellas! The players did. We all knew we needed to get points coming into this game. We came out and pissed down our leg. There were several plays to be made, and nothing. I could make a list, but I would be here all day! The fact is simple!! The players lost this one!

Gideon should have caught that ball. When you play Tech, and they give you a gift, you have to make a play. You aren’t gonna get many, so when they come you have to take advantage.

Colt played like a clown for about 2.5 quarters! Collins left his hands in Austin. Gideon dropped an int. Thomas had one hit him squarely in the numbers, Sergio Kindle lost contain on Harrell countless times. The O-line missed quite a few blocks, and when they didn’t we either held on to the ball for an eternity, or missed the hole. It was a total team effort that we could not have vs Tech.

  35. Bobby Jack Akina said:

    November 1st, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Just watched our last 5 offensive plays on the DVR. Time left on game clock and play clock at the snap after we reached the Tech 25 (game clock was running each time):

    3:22, 18 seconds
    3:03; 29 seconds
    2:34, 17 seconds
    2:08, 7 seconds
    1:34, 21 seconds (touchdown)

That’s an awful lot of clock we could have run. We kicked off to Tech with 1:29 left and Tech holding one timeout (among many things they held tonight). We should have been kicking off with, at most, 45 seconds left and Tech holding no timeouts.

Would have been even cooler if we had covered that kick.

  36. as far as clock management goes…………..

It is all hindsight!! If we run the clock down to 30 seconds they still have plenty of time to kick a field goal. They ran the plays they did, because they had time. They wouldn’t have run those plays with less time. They still would have had plenty of time to get in field goal range.

  37. Bobby Jack Akina said:

    November 1st, 2008 at 8:41 pm

P, it’s not hindsight; it’s simply good strategy. I, and many others I’m sure, were screaming at our TVs during the drive that we needed to run more clock.

And saying that Tech still would have had a chance with 30 seconds left is beside the point. A coach should try to maximize his chance of winning. Our coaches clearly did not do that in the last three minutes of the game.

  38. Bobby Jack Akina

Look man. We all were thinking the same thing. But……….. The way our offense had been performing up until that point you can’t assume we would get in from as far out as we were. We could have ended up squandering away our time if we get stopped a couple plays in a row.

  39. 40 Second Clock said:

    November 1st, 2008 at 8:57 pm

p- we had 3 timeouts. Time was not going to be the thing that stopped us from scoring.

Crap- forgot to change my name after a smart-ass post on another thread. The username was not meant to be a jab at you p.

  41. lol!!!!

I understand where you are coming from. Here is what I am getting at……..

Out of our last 6 plays only 1 was a pass. What if we get stuffed? It always looks easier to say that after it worked, but if we get stuffed a couple times we could have put ourselves in a real bad position. I agree that once we got inside the 10 we should have run more clock, but not before then. First and foremost you have to make sure you can actually score, then worry about clock. If we had run clock once we got inside the 10 we could have probably cut it to 30-40 seconds. Still plenty of time for Tech to go 40 yards for a FG. Remember time stops with a 1st down.

  42. Stuck in MN said:

    November 1st, 2008 at 9:17 pm

Time stops with a first down until the chains move, then starts again. Once we get inside the 20 with 2 plus minutes and 3 timeouts, time is the last of our worries (or more precisely having enough time is not a worry).

I have to go back to Bobby Jack’s prior post about increasing your odds. Leaving Tech 30 seconds to kick a field goal does not guarantee us a win, but it puts us at about 80-90% chance of a win as opposed to the under 50% that I thought we had when we scored.

  43. The coach’s job is to put his players in the best position to succeed, and Greg Davis failed miserably from the start.

The first call of the game was beyond stupid, and it took the momentum our defense had begun by making Tech punt to open the game, and jerked it 180 degrees back to Tech.

dumbest fucking play call of the year.

  44. I went outside with my wife after the game and simulated the tipped pass 10 times. She caught 9 of them and she’s never played catch in her life. Blake Gideon is terrible and I hope he spends the entire week doing nothing but catching passes from a six year old girl.

That’s kind of where my thinking is, but I think USC’s O can be absolutely bricked early in the year if you introduce some complexity and pressure. If you let Barkley just walk up and run the play that was signalled in from the sideline, the game is over.
