Texas picked up 5 more commitments today (at least publicly). There are at least a couple that are silent commits. Just be patient. Here are the players we brought in.
LB Aaron Benson, Cedar Hill
Benson held solid offers from OU, LSU, Nebraska and TCU before picking up one from Texas this today. He's going to commit to Texas sooner than later. Watched him against Allen in the playoffs. Solid frame, great motor and can run.
DB Carrington Byndom, Lufkin
When was the last time you heard a Lufkin guy get offered by Stanford? Byndom is that guy, and he picked up one from Texas as well. He plays safety for Lufkin, but his thin frame probably means he's a corner at the next level.
DT De'Aires Cotton, Alief Taylor
Cotton committed to Texas and had already been offered by OU, A&M, Oklahoma State and Nebraska. There is no film up of Cotton on either Rivals or Scout so I don't know much about him. Supposedly not as athletic but more solidly built than Taylor Bible. His coach seems to think he can do more than he was asked to do last season.
WR Mike Davis, Dallas Skyline
Watched him in a playoff game last season. He didn't get offered at this point, but I think he eventually will. His grades must be fine if Notre Dame, Stanford and Cal have already offered.
CB Tony Hurd, Fort Bend Marshall
Hurd didn't get offered. He's an undersized guy who plays safety in high school. Solid build but height might be an issue for some. He's got a decent offer list, but it looks like Texas might be full at corner.
LB Tevin Jackson, Garland
Jackson committed. Was offered by OU last week. No video for him available.
DE Jackson Jeffcoat, Plano West
Jeffcoat is the best player to come out of Texas since Adrian Peterson, and he's the best defensive end in Texas since David Warren. Texas is in good shape, but for some reason USC worries me.
QB Case McCoy, Graham
Yes, he's Colt's brother. And yes, he committed. He has better offers than his brother did, probably because of the success of his brother. I'll go out on a limb and say that his skill set includes accuracy and a feel for the position.. We can now look forward to a quarterback controversy at Texas involving Applewhite McCoy and Chris Simms Garrett Gilbert.
LB Corey Nelson, Dallas Skyline
Texas offered. Probably the best linebacker in the state. He can really run. Watched him in a playoff game last season.
LB Dominique Patterson, Dallas Skyline
Patterson was not offered, and I personally don't think he's Texas good after watching him in person. I don't expect him to get an offer in the future.
Ath Adrian Phillips, Garland
Committed. Phillips plays multiple positions for Garland, but it's thought that Texas is recruiting him as a defensive back. There's no video of him up that I can see. OU offered him on their first junior day.
RB Lache Seastrunk, Temple
Our top target at running back, and someone who would have a good chance of succeeding in that current abortion we call a running game. Some off the field stuff surrounding his recruitment, but he's by all accounts a good kid.
OT Evan Washington, Desoto
Two days ago it was thought that Texas wouldn't take any offensive linemen this year. Then yesterday Trey Hopkins commits and today Washington gets invited to campus. He wasn't offered, but Texas told him that he probably would after they sort out the numbers. He's only been playing football for a couple of years, but he's super athletic, has a background in basketball and his dad played in the NFL for about a decade.
CB Adrian White, Desoto
Texas offered as have the rest of the big boys. Probably the top corner in the state.
We'll probably get as many players from Desoto this year as we have the last twenty years combined. What changed? Their head coach. Claude Mathis took over the program after resurrecting Austin Reagan. He's a central Texas native who starred at Bartlett and Southwest Texas, and he's a fan of the program.
WR Darius White, Fort Worth Dunbar
The best wide receiver in the state got offered. I've only seen film, but he's supposed to be ridiculously good. Of course, coming from the Fort Worth ISD he's probably never run a proper route in his life. So he'll either be the next Roy Williams or the next George Walker.
DE Reggie Wilson, Fort Worth Haltom
Texas offered as has pretty much everyone. Wilson is a native of the Ivory Coast, and we've had pretty good success with African defensive ends. Great athlete. Dude even plays soccer.
QB Connor Wood, Houston Second Baptist
Texas offered as have many others. He's a big kid who also happens to be a very good athlete.
