Texas gets commitment from defensive tackle

Derek Johnson from Hoxie, Arkansas committed to Texas yesterday. The 6'3" 300 pounder has offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

If you're wondering why Texas went after an out of state recruit, Johnson spent seven years of his childhood in El Paso (ouch) before moving to Arkansas his ninth grade year (double ouch).

Johnson sent the Texas coaches his junior film, and the coaches came by the school in mid May to check him out in person. Johnson and his coach then visited Austin yesterday, and he committed last night.

Recruiting is hard.
