Sumlin will lead the Aggies in the SEC after accepting the post today. He was 35-17 as head coach of the Houston Cougars. That included a 12-0 regular season this year, although the Coogs were spanked by Southern Mississippi in the Conference USA Championship Game.
Sumlin was making $1 million a year with Houston -- no word yet as to his financial deal with A&M.
Meanwhile out on the West Coast UCLA hired Jim. L. Mora, or as they hope to call him, Pete Carroll 2.0, as their new coach.
Mora has exactly one year of experience at the collegiate level -- as a grad assistant at Washington. Carroll replaced Mora as the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks -- no word yet if future draft choices were involved in the trade.
Mora was 32-32 as a head coach in the NFL at Atlanta and Seattle.
Mora signed a 5-year, $12 Million deal to take over the Bruins, who hope he brings Carroll-like success across town -- without the NCAA baggage.
