According to multiple sources, the Texas Longhorns extended their first offer in the 2015 class. The target is defensive tackle Daylon Mack from Gladewater (Tex.). Mack already possesses an offer from the Texas A&M Aggies, and also lists early interest from the Baylor Bears, TCU Horned Frogs, and Florida Gators.
The offer is part of a recruiting sea change by Mack Brown and the coaching staff. Texas began offering 2014 prospects earlier this summer, a drastic change in its previous philosophy of offering kids at "Junior Day" camps. Further, the Longhorns have looked more and more at both out-of-state and junior college recruiting, two areas almost never tapped by Brown in the past.
Texas likely isn't done extending offers to 2015 prospects. Hookem's Jeff Howe mentioned on Twitter that fans should expect to see more offers forthcoming. Of course, the real question is whether the current staff will even be around to coach 'em up by then.
