Barking Carnival has a plethora of quality football writers and they all do a great job of running through a verbal recap of the highs & lows within a game. Whether it's Nobis60's 'Shooting from the Hip', Scipio Tex's post-mortems, or the work Wescott & crew do over at Burnt Orange Nation, there is a ton of coverage to be had. However, sometimes you just have to watch tape to really get the info you need. I don't have a lot of practice with film review, so forgive me if I get a couple of details wrong.
First Quarter
Notre Dame has scored first and Texas needs to respond with a drive, not only to give the defense some rest, but to allay the fears of Longhorn faithful. As you can see, Notre Dame DT Sheldon Day had other ideas.
He easily beats his man over and over, showcasing elite speed & his awareness of the limited lateral ability of Texas' center.
Second Quarter
Texas was reeling offensively, but that was only half of the problem. Missed tackles were a problem all night, no more so than on this impressive run by C.J. Prosise.
The arm tackles employed by the Texas defense were clearly not working.
Arguably the only highlight of the first half came courtesy of Malik Jefferson's huge hit in the backfield.
With that combination of speed, flexibility, and proper form, it's easy to see why people are so high on him. That guy's going to be scary.
Third Quarter
Malik Zaire really showed off his arm this quarter, connecting with his receivers almost at will. He really was on a whole other level.
I probably could've done without the trash talking, but he definitely backed it up.
Fourth Quarter
By the time the 4th quarter rolled around, the game was pretty much in hand. Plenty of young players got playing time, and while they had a lot of energy & enthusiasm they weren't really quite as focused as you'd hope.
As you can see, there's lots of room for improvement with this team. One can only hope that with the proper adjustments, Charlie Strong can turn this team around. If not, he'll likely suffer the same fate as his predecessor.
