Jordan Elliott Lost For 2016

NCAA Football: Iowa State at Texas Brendan Maloney-USA TODAY Sports

When a malcontent WR who thinks he’s a QB and a wandering-eyed 2017 OL serve notice that they won’t be in Austin next season, you shrug your shoulders.

When a freshman DT who just played a versatile and exciting game on the interior and was serving notice of pending destructitude looks to be done for the season...that sucks any way you cut it.

Per Wells and Nahlin at IT, Jordan Elliott tore his MCL in Saturday’s game and is likely ticketed for surgery in the coming days. It’s awful news for Elliott, and a tough blow for a DL that put together a complete and dominating show against ISU but still needs all the active and effective bodies it can find to fight through the back half of the Big XII slate.

Elliott had an outstanding game against Iowa Steak, bouncing between 1-, 2- and 3-technique alignments on the interior while playing low and fast and frequently proving too much for the Cyclones’ interior OL to handle. It would have been a lot of fun to watch him keep growing up this season, and now the prospect of guys like Nelson, Boyette and Puma Forward wearing down through simple over-use against fast-paced offenses gets a little scarier. Hopefully guys like Christmas and Wilbon are ready to step up and start adding some more meaningful snaps to the mix, because it will be all hands on deck if Texas wants to turn this whole “ass-kicking front tees up the back seven for success” concept into an ongoing thing.

Get well soon, Jordan.
