Barking Carnival was actually originally conceived as a barbecue blog that would dabble in Texas sports. Oh well.

Texas Monthly has published its annual Meata Carta.

“Texas barbecue has no peer on earth.” That’s what I immodestly declared in 2013, when we published our fourth list of the fifty best barbecue joints in the state. We were right, of course, but I did wonder: Had we peaked?

Once again they have omitted Chooky’s ranch from their esteemed Top 50 list, possibly because it’s an undisclosed location, isn’t reliably open and/or due to Health Service violations. WHATEVS, the boy can brisket.

Please peruse the list and add comments at the bottom. I’m waaaaaaaaaay overdue for an extended visit to my home state and I plan on attacking the Q like a one man wolf pack.
