I wouldn’t expect the Red River Showdown to move off its 11:00 am kick off anytime soon, not since Texas and OU lit up the Cotton Bowl Saturday which helped Fox win the weekend ratings race.
Over 5.6 million tuned in to the Horns “Hold Your Breath To The End” 48-45 upset of the Sooners. It is the first time that Fox has had the #1 game of the week halfway through the regular season, and the best audience for the contest since it last appeared on ABC in 2015.
The 1-hour weather delay for Maryland @ Michigan on ABC - the only game of consequence in the same time period - no doubt helped. Some of those casual college football fans who flipped over to Fox liked what they saw and stuck around.
The Texas-OU thriller had over 3 times as many viewers as the other three Big 12 games combined (Kansas @ W. Virginia, Iowa State @ Oklahoma St, Kansas St. @ Baylor)
Florida’s win over LSU is next with 4.7 million on CBS.
