The AAS is reporting that Texas will be parting ways with Rick Barnes. It's not clear whether that's been communicated to Barnes yet, but I suspect the official announcement will probably come after April 1st - saving Texas 250K in a bonus milestone payout.
Barnes is the best and winningest coach in Texas basketball history. This is not open to much dispute. He built up the Texas basketball program and came to be measured harshly against the expectations that he singlehandedly created.
But it was time for a change.
Thanks Rick. You'll always be one of my favorites coaches. Hook 'em.
