UCLA's $280M/15 year UA deal makes the rumors for what UA would have offered us appear to be more accurate, or even under valued. I'm really surprised we did not officially hear their pitch, regardless of our relationship and preference for Nike - not in a greed sense, but just for business discipline.
I missed the news that Nike gave Ohio State $2M more than us a few months after we finalized our deal. Even if the value is basically even considering timing and intangibles, and we are far better off than Michigan or Notre Dame, who likes being one upped so quickly?!
I'm surprised if the top 5 brand value programs don't have some sort of 'most favored customer' conditions in their contracts to track each other, especially to hedge against a 2nd tier school (no offense to UCLA who has owned us on multiple fields) landing that kind of deal with Nike a year or two from now - much less Alabama, OU or Nebraska.
Thoughts?
