2020 Texas Football Recruiting: 4 star safety Chris Thompson commits to Auburn

A late surprise goes against the Horns.

After a late push from Auburn, Chris Thompson, the four star safety from Duncanville, has selected War Eagle over Hook ‘em. The big 6-1, 195 pound hitter is a violent tackler and excels at coming downhill in the running game, while also serving as a physical presence in the middle of the field. Blessed with a large frame, Thompson will easily carry 210-215 pounds or more at the college level.

Thompson won’t excel in pure coverage at the college level and is at his best attacking as a box safety or possibly even as an outside linebacker (watching those highlights, a future at linebacker doesn’t seem so far fetched). Within the right scheme, he’s a very useful defender. Texas runs those schemes and offered a pretty natural fit, but Thompson opted for the plains of Eastern Bama.
