  1. “Texas is 1-2 in Holiday Bowls under Brown.”

And the 1 was a miracle comeback in a game in which our defense fell hard for every shred of misdirection Oregon threw at us.

  2. So it’s the Holiday Bowl. Whatever. Az State? Go Greg. Go Duane/Larry. Go kids…

  3. You typically go with the team that wants to be there. ASU had a chance at an @large and feels cheated by Hawaii. But it’s a step up for their program. I’m betting on Mack Brown to have Texas more apathetic than the competition.

  4. Do the devils like to toss the spheroid or tote the leather? Ah, what difference does it make … 500 is 500.

  5. ASU was 38th in Pass O this past year averaging 250+ per game. We’ll give them 375-400 at least.

They were 67th in Rush O with 145+ per game. We’ll hold them to 115 and Mack will declare that to be significant.

They’re 27th in Total D with Rush D being their strong suit (13th). The PAC10 isn’t as pass happy as it used to be so this does not bode well for Texas.

  6. And the 1 was a miracle comeback in a game in which our defense fell hard for every shred of misdirection Oregon threw at us.

We lost to Oregon, thanks to poor defense and a series of dropped passes in the endzone. The Holiday Bowl we won was against Washington.

  7. “They’re 27th in Total D with Rush D being their strong suit (13th). The PAC10 isn’t as pass happy as it used to be so this does not bode well for Texas.”

    That was funny.

How many passing yards would we give up to Navy?

What will it take to keep Erickson from licking the screen when he sees film of our pass coverage?

  8. Tell me again what 10 wins in six straight seasons will get me?

  9. One MNC

  10. He almost one 11, smartass.

  11. I missed echeese. Fake Echeese, not so much.

This place needs a positive vibe.

If you think about, Mack almost nevar looses.

A disastrous matchup for Texas. A hungry team from the Pac 10 against Duane Akina. A complete mismatch. ASU 45 UT 16

  13. Mack Brown is the Ben Roesthlesberger of college coaches

  14. I miss me as well

Akina will come up big here, because being a former Arizona Wildcat, he’ll look at this as a rivalry game.

  16. MackDaddy will be clappin’ and spittin’ with intensity, going for that all-important 10th win. It’s what defines him.

Nevertheless, I look for us to get our asses kicked. We’re not good on either side of the ball. We don’t want to be there, so we won’t be prepared and we won’t play with heart.

This will be a replay of 2003.

  17. go cheer for OU

At least OU wins championships and plays fundamentally sound football.

Hooray, we beat Baylor, Rice, Arkansas State, Central Florida, TCU, and many other juggernauts.

Should we lose this game, we can bet that one of the things Mack will say after the game is “We didn’t think they would X”, which will most assuredly be something predicted in pre-game media and fan analysis, as well as something we’d expect they could make halftime adjustments to overcome.

Okay, I agree that we can safely say that our defense is nothing short of horrid; our offense is generally meek and shows no signs of vinegar or salt or any other delicious flavor of chip - BUT Central Florida is a good football team. Not hang-within-a-touchdown-of-Texas good I’ll grant you (or at least they shouldn’t be) but they’re 10-3, confrence champs boasting the 2nd most prolific rusher in a single season in NCAA history. Can we please stop dogging them as some piss-poor baylor-esque victory and give the coaches and players a pass on this one? They beat a worthy opponent. Not the sort of the thing that you’d want to hang your wang on (unless you’re echeese); but neither do I think they should be grouped together with the also-rans in such a hap-hazard manner. There I said it. I feel better.

  21. Where would you set the over-under on total yardage for ASU? I’m thinking in the neighborhood of 650.

  22. What can 10 do for you?

  23. BC should set up a prediction poll for the post-game presser when Mack Brown says “We didn’t expect them to …”

    - Blitz
    - Block
    - Throw the ball
    - Pass the ball
    - Defend the run
    - Defend the pass
    - Punt
    - Not do something stupid late in the game which has often allowed us to win a game we shouldn’t
    - See our Desert Swarm homage to ‘effective college defenses of the ’80s’ coming. In retrospect, that was probably a bad call on the part of my new associate-head-defensive-coach-with-absolutely-no -input-into-the-game-plans-and-shut-up-about-the-linebackers-already.

mileslong - Wow, you really took the time and effort to make a graphic making fun of UT. What a loser. Just go ahead and email it to your OU buddies so that they can start posting it on their message boards when they talk shit. Why are you doing their work for them?

  25. Mack has almost won 50% of his Holiday Bowl appearances.

  26. Simms threw 3 consecutive passes that should have been touchdowns in that games against Oregon. Somehow all 3 were dropped.

  27. The Major would have completed them.

  28. Folks, The Major would have caught them himself.

  29. “Wow, you really took the time and effort to make a graphic making fun of UT. What a loser. Just go ahead and email it to your OU buddies so that they can start posting it on their message boards when they talk shit.”

We don’t need graphics to make fun of Texass. If we need a laugh we just rewatch the game film when we hung 65 on your ass, or when y’all took a knee at midfield before the half, or when the little midget walked into the endzone 6 times, or … well I gotta go, somebody’s knocking at the door with our latest Big 12 trophy.

  30. What is the UT - OU series record?

  31. Y’all are probably gonna have to go back to using A&M as your rival since y’all are having such a hard time with them. Our rival is whoever shows up in the conference championship game. Once y’all get A&M under control you can give us a shout.

  32. I just have a really bad feeling about this game.

Mack and company can shut up a ton people with a sharp, well executed game plan. But this hasn’t happened in awhile.

  33. saw Dennis Erickson’s comments about the match up — he talked about how great the Texas “program” is and everyone knows it, he even mentioned (with a smirk) that he coached against Texas in the 90 Cotton Bowl.

I am not and have no reason to be optimistic about this Holiday Bowl.

  34. The Major would have completed them.

Yes, but he wouldn’t have had to complete them to win. Had The Major played against Oregon, the Horns would have been up 94-0 by that point in the game.

-exactly, just like the next year vs Washington in the same bowl game! ….only difference is that our receivers had grown and made some great catches of those weather balloons!

I wanted to make fun of you instead but apparently you need a password to access the NAMBLA website so I wasn’t able to get a photo of you from your personal ad…

We have at least 20 trees. Maybe 30. Bitch.

Biggest oversight of the article is Juco transfer WR Cameron Kenney. Imagine a guy who can consistently send a rugby style punt 40 yards with good air and run a 4.5 40. Anytime

In all honesty, Texas should not be in the BCS Championship if we don’t go undefeated. Our only two games of consequence got somewhat and significantly (for OU & OSU) easier in the last week or so. We play no one else with a pulse the entire year.

CTJ: I see your point now. I guess what I was getting at was that I’m setting the odds low at Texas getting in the MNC game with one loss, and at one hundred percent if we don’t lose. To the extent anything can happen, you’ve got a point — might as well knock Boise

I will root for Oregon because I appreciate the motocross aesthetic of their uniforms. No college football uniform is complete without a patch or two of faux diamond plate steel.

I really don’t see it. At all.

If Texas wins out, there’s absolutely no way Boise State leaps us. If we lose a game, our own schedule all but assures we won’t be playing in Pasadena.

After the hose-job Texas got last year for OU’s benefit, I don’t think there’s any way in hell that OU moves ahead of us on ’sentiment’ this time around. We beat their asses in October and take care of business, we’re in the title game – weak schedule be damned.

I’m not sure my eyes can handle the Oregon uniforms on the bright blue turf. I will be opting for low-def to dull the pain.

Beyond this just being a fun game to kick off the 2009 College Football season, it really actually matters to us a great deal more than it should.

Let’s look at the surface level stuff:

-Oregon is a respected program that is ranked within the preseason top 20 of both polls.
    -Oregon plays in the PAC

First of all, I’m sure OU was really upset about Blaines injury. Secondly, pontificating on beating an ou team without Gresham and the media looking down on it is ridiculous. The cart goes first.
