Colt McCoy quit drinkin’

Posted by HenryJames on September 5th, 2008 under Football

Today is Colt McCoy’s birthday and also the nine year anniversary of the day he quit drinking…Dr. Pepper.

“My dad challenged me, going in to play football,” he said. “We had this guy motivational speaker come in and said, if you want to be your best, you won’t drink (soda pop). You’ll drink water or Gatorade.”

Can you imagine what type of motivational speaker travels to Tuscola?

It’s doubtful that the Big 12 Conference wants to publicize the fact that McCoy is no longer a Pepper. A couple of weeks ago they extended their sponsorship agreement making Dr. Pepper the official soft drink of the Big 12 through the 2011-2012 athletic year.

  1. So Mr Foley…what happens when you drink Dr. Pepper? Well Colt my boy…it just means you’re going to end up living in a van down by the river!

    That’s neat and all, but he’s still a cum-guzzler.

  3. He believes in No Soda, No Gut.

    I love that boy.

  5. Just one more reason for me to like Colt. I also am a former Dr. Pepper addict - like Colt, I had a sixpack a day habit until I went on the Atkins diet about 8 years ago. I haven’t had one since.

the best part of quitting drinking dr. pepper is having an occastional dr. pepper.

Ken Stabler, Don Meredith and Billy Kilmer all just committed suicide so they could be buried and then roll over in their graves.

  8. I replaced my 6 pack a day of diet Coke with a fifth of Wild Turkey and my life has become immeasurably better.

Our weekly entry to the blogpoll is below. We have eight voters and all eight of us have Florida ranked #1. Please provide feedback if you see anything that makes you think the AT folks are still drunk from JR Slim’s Tiger festival.

The AP poll is out, by the way, and has the Tigers ranked

Too Low: BYU, ND, OU, Mizzou, Carolina, Baylor

Too High: tOSU, VaTech, LSU, FSU, PSU, Michigan

Just right: 1-4, OkState, Miami OleMiss, Nebraska, Ark, Georgia

WTF?!: Boise is top 15! No better and no worse, and Michigan and Southern Miss dont belong… just sayin’

Texas is playing at Wyoming in 2009 because the Cowboys will play UT again in Austin in 2010 and 2012. So, with the math you did on ticket sales, etc., Texas gets a payday for two homes vs. one away game. We made a similar deal with UCF. Let’s face it, this

Seems that UTEP basically blew that Buffalo game last weekend. Wonder if we’ll just keep going with the run again against that 3-3-5.

Indeed, UTEP had 10 possessions, two of which ended in touchdowns and two ended in field goal attempts. Two were basically killed by losses on bad shotgun snaps, two ended when Vittatoe

College Football News has been riding shotgun on the Tiger bandwagon since Brad Smith was a redshirt freshman, but the site has now ejected the driver and taken over the wheel. The recently posted week one rankings of every team puts Mizzou here:

True freshman Greg Reid (#5) for FSU is a bad ass. I enjoyed watching the parolees, panhandlers, and pimps in the stands just as much as the action on the field in the 2nd half.

Ponder and Harris both looked vastly improved from last year. Miami’s MLB #50 is worthless in pass protection but he’ll knock

Only watched some of the LSU-Wash. game on replay, but LSU looked off. Washington moved the ball fairly well and then seemed to self destruct. Washington is much improved, of course it helps that Locker is healthy.

On #5: Sure, it sucks that we didn’t have any sacks last Saturday. But, as I recall, we didn’t have any last year until game three, where we sacked Arkansas 5 times. Hopefully we’ll follow a similar pattern this year.

If you asked a random group of 100 college football fans who reached 200 wins at an earlier age among Bear Bryant, Bobby Bowden, Woody Hayes, Joe Paterno, Lou Holtz, and Mack Brown, how many do you think would guess correctly? There’s an obvious reason why, but I’ll just enjoy the answer for

Miami shoots from the mid-30s to a Top 10 with one win over a #18 opponent? I’d give them a 12-15 at best.
Missouri should be where FSU is, given their performance and FSU’s loss. I’ll echo the poster from above – you gave a losing team an increase? That’s almost as crazy as knocking down
