Is Colt McCoy the answer at quarterback?

Posted by HenryJames on December 4th, 2007 under Football

I’m not talking about his performance on the field although that is up for debate.

I’m talking about something much more important. Something that transcends the game of football.

That’s right. I’m talking about his taste in music.

The Statesman asked a group of Austin area athletes in different sports about what songs they find are the best motivators, ‘what they’ve got loaded on their iPods when they work up a sweat.’

McCoy was one of the athletes they asked.

He had two songs tied at the top of his list.

‘I Can Still Make Cheyenne’ by George Strait, and …

Wait for it.

‘She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy’ by Kenny Chesney.

she likes the way it’s pullin’ while we’re tillin’ up the land…
she’s even kinda crazy ’bout my farmer’s tan…

Are we still sure McCoy is the guy to lead the team?

  1. That is so awful on so many different levels.

  2. I prefer my QBs to have a hint of Yanni in their musical diet.

And I see that Tony Hills is a big fan of a gentleman named Z-Ro.

I have always loved me some Heavy Metal. But I’m kinda ok with the evidence here that Country reigns supreme in small town Texas, and that farmers’ kids aren’t all listening to Gansta Rap like their some kind of oppressed inner city subculture, cause their not.

And as far as real toughness and Judas Priest songs go, I kind of go back and forth about Rob Halford. His favorite band was Queen and he did adopt Freddie Mercury’s leather biker look. So was he mocking metal fans, knowing they had no idea that this look was more Village People than Hell’s Angels, or was he really a tough son of a bitch, to have lasted so long as a gay man in a genre that really doesn’t appreciate that kind of thing.

I guess on this issue, I swing both ways.

  8. Big George Strait fan, myself. Good for him.

The tractor deal is just weird, though. I mean, a farm implement as a sex metaphor? Odd, that’s all I can say.

  9. Colt is not old enough to understand the sexual connotations of the song. He really just enjoys the tractor noises placed throughout.

I like to increase the pregame intensity of the fellows by piping some Andrea Bocelli into the dressing area whilst sipping a light chardonnay. Bully on you, young Colt.

I’m a huge country fan, and I was devastated to read this. Aside from “Honkytonkbadonkadonk” that is basically the worst song ever released under the veil of country music.

Somebody buy this kid some Dwight Yoakam.

I’m all for Stoops-bashing, but it is hypocritical to criticize Stoops for convincing Bradford or Gresham to stay in school. He is doing what coaches do. Lest we forget that most recently Mack Brown tried to talk Vince into staying for another year, and so did Pete Carroll to Matt Sanchez, and both had a

I was more or less satisfied with the running game. Vondrell looked good apart from the fumbles. He only averaged 4.7 yds/carry, but while watching the game it seemed he did well. There were a few low/no gains, but none that I remember were negative. There were 2 things I think

Watching CU-CSU now. Before that, it was Ole Miss and Memphis. Don’t believe the final box score, Ole Miss looked like shit all day until the fourth quarter when Memphis self-destructed. Even that half-time lead was thanks to a pick six. Jevan Snead is playing like last year as a fluke and all those high

You gotta love NateHeupel – he says:
“If UT lost Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley prior to the Red River Shootout, Mack Brown and UT would have an asterisk in the media guide before kickoff. ”

I think that I was most excited about the poise Gabbert showed. He stood in the pocket and took some shots and delivered some great balls. I also was happy to see a little explosiveness from the receivers.

Is UT’s schedule as embarrasing as losing to a bunch of slow, white Mormons from Utah?

No worries though. I’m sure our far inferior front 7 will be no match against your beastly o-line. I mean it’s not like Texas is going to roll out athletes the likes of that BYU squad.

    See ya in Dallas.

    also GOOD:

Kenny Vaccaro. He tied Muck for the team lead in tackles with 6 and blew shit up all night on kick coverage. Seemed like he was either knocking wedge blockers back into the returner or making the tackle himself every time down.

    shots back in the day.

Uga also punted with 6 minutes left in the game, down a lot.

If the staff can bench Jamal freaking Charles for a few fumbles when he was clearly a difference maker and the best RB on the team, I don’t know why McGee should get any more chances. He has had his opportunities and he is what he is in this system, a 4.0 ypc runner.

I went to the Uga Osu game and the final score really doesn’t tell the tale. Georgia qb had the flu and traveled seperate from the team. He was clearly not 100 percent, which makes my next point all the more strange. After the first quarter Uga inexplicably went away from a working rushing attack,

Staying in school worked out well for Leinart.

QB is such a crapshoot it really has nothing to do with coming out as a junior or senior. Juniors who come out are likely to be taken by terrible teams and end up getting labeled as busts when they really don’t have much support.

i dont put one iota of blame on Bradford, for staying or getting pummeled into the turf.

simple fact: the OU o-line is awful, even more so than any of us thought they would be.
Crawford got to Sam just as he did, what, FIVE plays earlier, and got to Tom Landry Jones THREE plays later.
